Ok so after excessive deliberation I decided to go for the 55-250 IS to take travelling with me. I must say i am gob smacked. Having rented the 70-200L I really can't see that much of a difference (Other than the obvious advantages) The quality is amazing! I Suppose i haven't really taken it anywhere yet but just playing around the in the backgarden, i really am pleasantly, surprised

Here are just a couple of quick snaps;

And one to test out the stabiliser panning;

(ISO 800)

All taken on a 40D. I look forward to showing you some decent pictures with it!

Leighton.

I kept getting that til I realised I had Preview with sharpening on especially in Irfanview. They still look good to me though

I must admit I'm impressed with the 18-55 IS lens that came with my camera and the 70-300 USM IS I bought after that. The IS makes such a difference I don't think I could live without it now.

I'm debating a similar purchase. What's the autofocus performance like?

I can see build quality, lower aperture and image quality being the three advantages of the 70-200. Anyone else used both? Can't decided whether that's worth £250, less range and IS. scratchchin

I Would say that the autofocus is where its let down to be honest. But even then, for two hundred pounds its a steal!

I would definately recommend you purhcase it.

Agreed, at full stretch it can only muster f/5.6 and I doubt the build quality is close to L glass. It looks like a plastic body going by the review on DPReview.

Well thank you very much leightonjames !!!

I just bought a 40D last week, and due to your pics and my insatiable impulse buying need, I've ordered one from Amazon, gets delivered on Tuesday.

I'm itching to get my hands on it now ! Thanks for the tip, now I know what to expect. I would probably have expected miraculous results straight out the box and been disillusioned.

Excellent Zeek ! I've took a few photos today with it, 1st day off since I got it. Going to d/load onto laptop and see what's there, and what's worth keeping.

Dunno if anything'll be worth showing you lot though...

Does it always rain all day when a new lens arrives?!

I've had the 450D for a few days now, not had much opportunity to use it yet, but hopefully the weekend will be nice. Love it so far, need to figure out how to take photos like the ones I see on here now though;)
