SWMBO drives a 56 plate Xj with 19" wheels, which are badly buckled and need replacing asap.Jag main dealer is quoting an arm and a leg for replacements but I have found a new set from an XK which are brand new and are 20" which I would prefer. Will they be a direct replacement or are XK wheels a different offset?

From the e-bay ads it appears that XF/XJ/XK all use the same 8.5J offset 49, 108 x 5 wheels

Yes but not the wider rear XK wheels

The XJ tyres are 255/40/19s all round and the wheels I am hoping to buy have tyres that are 285/30/20s. Will the extra 30mm make a difference?

15mm each side of the tyre should be OK

Run your finger round and see if there is enough of a gap

The gap seems tight, would spacers cure this?

I have an XKR myself so not too famillier with the XJ
15mm is the thinnest spacer you can get as far as I know,
so if there is at least that much clearance to the winks then it should

XJ (19") uses a 8.5J wheel all round (CH49). XK (20") uses 8.5J Front (CH49 - therefore common) and differentiated 9.5J rear (CH26). The XK rears will not be suitable.

CH = Offset

Aluminium bodied XJ's have a differant pcd to the steel bodied XK, All wheels from steel bodied XK's will fit steel bodied XJ's hope this helps.

PCD wise yes, but think the rear 10" paris/monty/detroit would be tight under the XJ arch. Have seen XJ's with these but think they use the fronts all round, ie the 8.5"

Are these available for the new shape XK/X350 XJ ? Thought these were for the old XK and X308 XJ ?
Norman is correct in that the new XK also has larger rears than fronts unlike the X350 XJ that has the same size all round

Changing from 255/40/19 to 285/30/20 gives a 3mm reduction in dynamic rolling radius.

It also gives a reduction in subjective comfort on a scale of 1 to 10 from 4.8 to 2.2 which is going from pretty poor in the first place to absolutely awfull.

Don't ever, ever rely on fitting the new wheels and having a look to see if the increase in width is a problem. You'll never replicate the reduction in tyre and wheelarch clearance you'll get under heavy braking or hard cornering and doing an emergency stop or lane change at 90 MPH is no time to discover your tyres are foulling the arches.

I'd take some expert advice before you go ahead. Talk to sombody who can absolutely guarantee you won't have a problem - and check out the cost of replacement tyres too. There's often a incredible difference between broardly similar sizes which depends on volume of sales.

I wasnt 100% sure if the wheels would fit so I didnt bid. They finished today with no bids. These are the wheels in question http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...
If anyone does come across a decent set of XJ alloys post a link to them on this thread. I dont want to pay dealer prices when they will be back as bad as ever in a few months.

I would prefer 20", though herself wants 19"s.
