Are we suffering from "identity theft"

okay we're a bit baffled by this,

Earlyer in the week a parcel arrived on our door for a "Miss Marie Osmond" didn't think too much of it, asked the postman if someone had put a house number in ect but nothing, so openend up the parcel and it was a bunch of beauty products, looked them up online and they retail at £60

Then next day, a travel insurance polity arrived again for Miss Osmond, for a similar amount

Today, a box full of vitamin supplements arrives for Miss Marie Osmond, again, for a similar amount.

We rang round all the companies, all of which said they were paid for online by credit card.

Worryingly, they gave our phone number as well as our address

but they wouldn't tell us anything else due to data protection and advised us to contact the police, which we have done, but they seem a little bit clueless as to why anyone would do this.


Wondered if anyone had any ideas?

All we can think of is maybe they're trying to build up a credit history for this address in their name

I'd speak to the police to be fair. if your tel no. has been given, it's obviously someone who's doing thier homework. Can't hurt to ask advice and let it be known it's not you buying this stuff

Assuming you aren't "Miss Marie Osmond", wouldn't it have been better to refuse delivery (if they needed signing for) or return to sender unopened?

yeh we have, nope isn't free, someone has paid around £160 to have this stuff delivered to us,
and used our phone number

spoke to police shall see what the outcome is, just seems a very odd thing to do

Not that YOU would, but make sure you don't use the stuff, just incase it hasn't been fully paid for
