car seems to be drinking fuel

Hi guys recently noticed that my car in my eyes seems to be using a lot more fuel of late.its a 2.5 recently had a bleed valve put on to give a bit more boost but did not seem to notice any difference in economy and this was done nearly a month ago.but after having a drive down to thruxton today i noticed my fuel gauge creeping down a lot faster than usual.I put £20 in and gauge was just below 3/4 done roughly 80 miles since then with fairly steady driving and have between empty and first notch on gauge left If its not just my imagination what should i be looking out for?

Its just an adjustable boost controller that i had fitted in the engine bay connected to the turbos and i think the manifold very cheap and cheerfull way of doing it to be honest.Its given me 30bhp more the car runs fine no problems but maybe its just me imagining it but it seemed to me to use more fuel than usual yesterday.i can undertand the fuel being used up more when giving the car the full beans but my driving was no different than usual yesterday.

Thought so, how do you stop it going lean? or does more boost automaticly mean more fuel on the 2.5?

My fuel gauge takes ages to get to 3/4 and then goes down quickly, 0=20 litres left though, don't know about 2.5s

When I fill mine up, the gauge reads over the full mark for miles, then it drops like a stone in just a few miles.

im sure that more boost means more fuel on my 2.5 and my gauge once filled up stays there for quite a while but once it starts moving it moves down fairly quickly maybe i should just accept that it will use more fuel from now on but i was holding back in the car to thruxton yesterday and it went down really quickly i cant detect any fuel leaks if my car is running lean would i be using more fuel?

Just to confirm, chris didn't just have this fitted and walked away, it was put on a RR to check AFRs.

my fuel consumption yesterday was 85 miles on roughly half a tank should have said that was put on rolling rd when bleed valve was fitted (sorry martin)and the car was fueling fine and since work was done car is driving better than ever (lumpy tickover has gone)could i possibly have a fuel leak?what should i be looking out for

Hi chris, been out in mine today, all motorway driving and done 180 miles and used 3/4 tank.

If you had a leak you would probably smell it. It probably just needs a good old map.

When my boost was increase fule consupsion did reduce but only because I used the right foot more

Best thing to do is fill it up before a long drive and then fill it up again when you get there and work out Fuel consumption and go from there. If you stay less than 80 all the way (on the appropriate roads before anyone says anything) I think you should be about 25-27mpg.

I know yours is the 2-5, but I have had my 3-0 for a month and generally I have been getting 23 ish to the gallon, this also includes using it to scare my mates as they turn up to see it.

Like everyone says fill tank - use most of it - fill up again. Calculate trueish mpg (or lpg if you're metric) and take it from there.

I did Goodwood and back on Sunday last week not particularly far from Fareham and didn't really use the car but it still cost me quarter of a tank.
