Will I get a good CLK for around five grand ?
Discussion
I quite fancy a CLK320 / 430 - coupe not convertible. What do I need to look for, what are these cars like to drive and own, and will £5K buy a good one that hasn't been to the moon ? My heart says go for the V8, but I'm not sure if the added running costs will be justified.

You should be able to find a nice one for £5k.
You need to check everything works (expensive to fix) and check the bodywork for rust. There's been much debate over what Mercedes cover you for. I think 8 years is the cut off date but it's always worthwhile speaking to your local Mercedes dealership. One thing to note is that you have to own the car for 6 months so Mercedes know you're not a trader trying to fix up stock free of charge. Also, they will check the paint depth for any sign of respraying. If it's much over 100 microns (?) then they won't pay for it, so you will need to find out if it's been resprayed for ANY reason.
As for the drive, it's no sports car; the AMG version handles better, though.
