Increasing rear reg light wattage...um...
Discussion
I'm getting my new plates for my Chim on Monday/Tuesday and the replacements are not as transparent as original TVR plates.
I could have had transparent ones but they would not have been reflective...
So can I increase the wattage of the rear plate light (getting more light thru) or ought I just stick to daylight driving, or buy another set of plates for night time driving, or keep the plates I have on there now, or what?

madant - I bet you got them from "fancyplates.com"? I think I was their first customer for translucent/reflective plates last December. I cleaned the bulbs and surroundings and put foil strips behind the plates too. Still not very bright. It got mentioned at the MOT too and It's noted as "unable to test" as they couldn't see the light or any difference during daylight. Uprating bulbs may cause problems (heat) and need fuse uprate as well. I wouldn't.
Shortly after I became the proud owner of my Chim 500 (way, way back in Dec 1999) I needed to have an MOT. Took it to the local garage (where I'd been before with other cars so knew their setup) and watched the bloke go around the car. When he got to the back, he said "Where are the number plate lights?" so I replied "Dunno!" He just carried on around the car and nothing more was said!! I'm now driving in Belgium with an aluminium rear plate that obviously doesn't let any light through. At their MOT (CT) they didn't raise an eyebrow - nor did they check the emissions!! Caught me on my headlights though!! Have now had them converted to continectal lights (rears as well) and all is fine!
