Low oil

Admittedly I should have checked it sooner(last checked about 2mths ago when I bought the car)but checked my oil today and the reading was below the oil level indicator.I have seen no oil warning on the dash or heard anything strange from the engine.Should I be concerned ?

By the way I am not normally such a dunce and am normally always on top of things mechanically

Once the oil light comes on it means that you dont have enough oil pressure and the pump is sucking in air.
Once this happens your very likely to cause damage to a modern engine.

If you have just run a bit low then it will probably be ok, I would also check for leaks as you have lost quite a bit of oil in a short period of time.

To be honest it could have been low when I bought it,I cant quite remember.
