Advice On Keeping Car Outside? (Temporarily)
Discussion
When get the car on Sunday this coming week due to some work getting done at the house I cant get use of the garage, so its going to have to stay outside for up to 2 weeks (not happy but got no choice!)
Anyone got any advice on the best way to keep them outside? Read a few things saying dont put covers on as they flap around in the wind and damage the paint. Curious of any opinions or pointers would be good!

Two weeks just?, Mine sits in aberdeen for that and fires up instantly but the brake pads often stick to the discs.
Mine is a daily the rest of the time and lives on the drive, I use Meguires car wash , polish & carnuba wax to help the bodywork along.
I dont think you need to worry about it too much.

^^^^ WHS. Mine sits yards from the sea for 2 weeks while I'm at work. Brakes go a bit rusty and the battery gets tired. Mine is a daily the rest of the time and lives on the drive, I use Meguires car wash , polish & carnuba wax to help the bodywork along.

Sitting outside or being used? My 'ro has likely never been in a garage in its life and is used daily come rain or indeed snow. No issues so far. If the car is standing, the brakes and battery would be the ones to watch as others have said. I believe the AP brakes have a higher iron content if you've got those and so aren't the best for when the car is sitting, I await correction here.
It will probably get used a few times as will have just got it, more worried about the paint than anything else.
On insurance if I say left it out one night and it got borrowed by some little s**t but id said to the insurers its garaged they would refuse to pay out even if it was garaged for every other day of the year!?

No. I've not yet seen a policy that doesn't say "Where will the car usually be parked?" - It doesn't have to be parked in a garage every single night of the year. Hope that helps.Pulse said:

Thanks for clearing that up, was quite concerned to say the least!

Mine lives outside full time. It is a daily driver and has never failed. Gets a bit dirty though....
Only bit of advice - remember to shut the doors and lock it - then deadlock it.
Got to keep the garage for the important things in life - the motorbikes!

Yes I am aware of the fact they are built to be able to withstand being left out in the open was just curious what sort of measures people go to protect the paint, maybes didnt come across that way lol
Oh right, the paint isn't really up to being left outdoors for as long as 2 weeks, so you will want to buy a giant tub of vaseline to smear all over the bodywork - ideally then if you can crumble some weetabix in to a fine powder and pour that over the car it may just make the 2 weeks.Only other tips would be to get some metallic tank tape to tape up all of the bonnet, door and boot gaps and to remove the tyres as they shouldn't get wet and will melt in sunlight.
For FS, its a car.designed to be parked outside, don't you use the thing?
