Inspired by this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mEqEe-PIC8

...I'm going to impulse buy a Ukulele. Been playing classical/fingerstyle/flamenco guitar for about two or three years. Never used a pick or plectrum, just nails, so I think that will be an advantage..

How hard is a Uke to play compared to guitar? Any Uke players on PH? Can anyone recommend any good books/sites for beginners?

Cheers

Edit: on another note - can anyone recommend any electric-classical guitars?

Uke is tuned like the top 4 strings of guitar, if it were capo'd at the 5th fret. IE G C E A, with the extra complication that the G is (usually) tuned an octave higher than you'd expect.

So most of your familiar guitar chords work fine on uke...

The best site IMHO for uke in the UK / europe is ukulelecosmos.com

And if you're impulse-buying, I can recommend theukuleleshop.co.uk or brueko.com

Steer clear of blue moon, samick and stagg ukuleles IMHO.

I was bored last night so decided to buy this as it was pretty:

Now having vaguely dabbled in playing instruments on and off (clarinet, guitar, bass guitar, piano) I thought I would dabble in another. hehe

Should be a giggle if nothing else smile

Don't forget the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain

Some of their song choices are pretty 'odd', but they're good fun.
