Just opened a 10 year old bottle of red wine

Last bottle taken from my wine cellar (on top of the cupboards in the kitchen).

Tastes OK, I'm getting oak and smoke with a lively hint of peat.

No idea where it came from but just wondering if I should have left it another 10 years.

Or will we all be living in mud huts by then?

Most wines don't age well in the bottle. Is it a claret?

Chateau Tour Salvet 1999.

It's all in French and everything.

Bit worried now in case it was from the wife's secret friend.

Certainly a bit more upmarket than the usual Tesco special that I find up there.

Think it's a Bordeaux but I don't know nuffink about wines.

Better scoff the lot before wifey finds out.

Under the section titled "Wines" where it lists the vintages, it makes no mention of 1999. This usually indicates that it wasn't a particularly good year for that wine. Good to see that you enjoyed it, though.
