Anyone else get out Saturday? Finally the roads were dry, the sun was out, and the temp was bearable..just.

I drove my SEAC for the 1st time since last November! I took it steady & warmed the car & myself before doing anything...silly.

I drove to the nearest Shell garage and filled up with it's finest fuel. I then drove out normally whilst being stared at by others in the garage...probably thinking "noisy sod"

Anyway, i gave it some gas in 2nd gear and...oh my God, the rear end stepped out massively to the right, then swung to the left! I managed to avoid spinning completely & caught her with plenty of opposite lock.
I let out a bit of a 'yeehaa' & got the thumbs up from an Mitsy Evo driver who witnessed this as he was following behind.

I drove a little more cautiously after that..lesson learned.
Bloody good fun though. biggrin

Oh the old roundabout near a petrol station issue, a well known issue for bikers, it amazing what a bit of diesel can do to the Co eff of friction!

Good point, i think everyone should have time behind the wheel of a powerful rear wheel drive car..free of 'Nanny' saftey features.

Gives you good grounding in what to do when it does go a bit 'Pete Tong'

We see posts on PH quite frequently in the TVR forums on how drivers of powerful rear deal with things when things go "Pete Tong".

Sometimes the drivers and passsengers are OK, sometimes they are less fortunate. As you demonstarted with your - it nearly bit me thread, abuse with head up backside results in a nasty fright if you're lucky...that's regardless of your perceived ability to drive a powerful rearwheel drive car with relatively few aids.

Agreed - there are those who drive with 'abuse head up backside' and end up in very dire situations. I had many instances as a PO when i had to attend accidents involving young lads with limited experience & powerful 'chipped' hot hatches.
But...as in my case, a 37 year old caught out by cold tyres/cold road & just having pulled out of garage service station with potential tyre contamination... gives it just a little to much gas in 2nd and...tyres spin, car goes sideways.
A lesson for us all, even if you 'think' you are a good driver, 'expect the unexpected'.

Owning both and Evo VIII and a 400 SE the Evo does have a bit more complicated electronics controlling it, but it does still take a bit of experience on cold tyres and slippy roads.
Just drive carefully and enjoy the experience.

Interestingly , the Evo/scubby drivers get it wrong too even with the electrics , plenty of those cars are seen by the body shops around the country!
