If you were asked to put your money where your mouth is, what would be a fair annual statistic to measure global warming.

I thought tropospheric temps would have been fairest to all.

The others side would like to use NASA GISS Surface Temperature Analysis.

thanks

Newsflash: It's impossible to measure global warming as the globe heats and cools naturally anyway. To measure global warming is about as pointless as starting a government scheme of free bicycles for abused fish.

Abused fish have human rights too. They need to get around and cannot use the buses as they cannot survive out of water. Why should they not get free bikes?

Discriminating (sp?) against a fish? if it wants to be a human and have the same rights as a human, then why can't it!

They all have issues/biases/error-bars etc but they don't differ all that much. A compromise might be to use a mean of them all?

www.woodfortrees.org might be useful - you can plot the mean of 4 datasets there.

What's the bet?

Total profit from carbon trade derivatives + Gross GW tax revenue.

There's not much else to understand is there?

The time period of the measurements is probably as important as the temperature.
Yes in the last 50 years you could probably show global warming. Over the last 100,000 years probably a cycle. Over 500 million years some interesting weather has occurred (490million years ago we were in an ice age with CO2 levels 10x todays)
