Been dealing with Pete at Camcote about coating my M12 exhaust system and while i was there on saturday he told me about a heat dispersal coating that can make rads and intercoolers up to 20% more effient !!!!
I think this is a pretty good upgrade and at a cost of about £60 + postage is a pretty cheap option !! if anyone else is interested let me know ,who nows we might be able to get a discount !!

Hard to rely on F1 any more for cutting edge there is probably some regulations somewhere in the small print saying they can only paint heat exchange surfaces if they use a pink paint supplied by uncle someone or other.</bitterness and sarcasm>

True, but there's no such rule I can find in this case. Same in Cart (IndyCar) as well. Seen a few of those in bits and none have had painted rads yet.Rads, the Noble has plenty of radiator capacity - cars to 500+ BHP have not had coolant cooling problems so I see no need to do this at the front end.
IC, in the 8-9 years that the Noble IC has been under scrutiny no one has ever suggested this as a solution. A claim of "up to 20%" probably equates in the real world to 5-10% max. I doubt you'd notice a 5-10% increase in the efficiency of your IC. If heat dispersal is what you are after then just painting it black would probably increase its heat dispersing ability. However the downside to that would be the effect the sun would have on it when it shone down on it on a hot summers day.
By all measn try but this sounds a bit marginal to me and there are many alternative approaches that are already thoroughly proven; larger IC, cooling sprays, heat reflectors etc.

OK ,thanks for the coments,the way i read it the treatment helps the intercooler get rid of its heats so it should cool down faster and the theory is it should maintain a lower operating temp .i think !!
its not a paint finish !! i do agree that a black coating should heat up more in the sun i will raise this point with Peter or nick at camcoat .

I suppose one question that springs to mind is, just how much of a radiators heat is actually given up with radiation? It's true of course that black surfaces do radiate more heat, but if 99.99% of the heat is taken away with air conducting the energy away...
Also think of this. Most of the intercoolers cooling surfaces actually face each other. That means that any radiation energy produced by one surface generally just hits another...

Good question. You'll probably find it's the surface quality that makes the most difference rather than colour. Interesting though...

but it basically ends up with a black heat dispersive layer coated on the IC. Is it inside or outside?
The reason I ask is that if its inside then consider what might happen to things like sensors, blow off valves, pipes etc (all downstream of the IC) when that stuff slowly but inexorably begins to flake away.
On RRs with LPG conversions many have the air filter changed to an oiled type. The oil then gets into the MAF sensors and ruins the engine management.

This is Pete from Camcoat. The TLTD coating used on rads, intercoolers, gearbox casings, diffs etc has consistently given between 10 and 20% improvement in heat rejection from the base metal. Bare aluminium tends to oxidise very quickly and the resulting layer of aluminium oxide is a natural thermal barrier which reduces the efficiency of heat transfer to the surrounding air. Our process textures the surface of the header tanks to increase the surface area and uses the TLTD black coating to both prevent oxidisation and to enhance heat rejection. The efficiency improvement does rely on air passing through the finned matrix and the temperature of that air being lower than the temperature of the compressed air inside the intercooler.
TLTD is also an excellent anti-corrosion coating for magnesium components.

Just coat the internal and rears faces? No black face to face the sun.The TLTD coating is applied with a detail 0.7mm nozzle spray gun and is cured at 150 degs C for 1 hour to give a dry thickness of 25 microns max.
