Baby won't eat!
Discussion
Plenty of PH parents around, hopefully one of you will have come across this and can offer some advice; our daughter (9 months) is getting increasingly picky about food. A few weeks ago, she would scoff down pretty much anything. This week, she will only eat sweet things. She has learnt the "swap over the spoons" manouver and just gobs out anything she doesn't like. She has plenty of energy, sleeps 7pm - 8am, and is drinking ok. Any ideas? I figure she is too young for the tough love approach.

If she is hungry she will eat... assuming she is healthy. Part of a power struggle, and you really don't want to lose!As long as she's drinking and not losing much weight I wouldn't worry. Minimechs occasionally does this and we just let him have as much as he wants and not force the issue (After initially trying to bribe him, but we figure you're just making a rod for your own back that way.)

You lucky, lucky b
d!Just stop giving her the sweet option, or just make sure it is always fruit.
But as long as she is still putting on weight, and seems bright and happy, then really is no need to worry.
My son went through phases of liking, and then hating certain food types, to only love them again 4 years on
The important thing is to keep introducing new foods to her, as well as old favs...nothing worse than a child who will only eat smilies, beans, and angel delight (I work in a school, so I know sadly this is very common)

Yep. 100% correct.Currently, at around that age, its difficult to over eat. So its a case of filling up to the full level and then letting it drain out from there. As they get older, they get picky and start to try and dictate what to eat. Their appetite will vary widely and of course they want the sweet, sugary stuff since its full of energy. Stick to your guns and work from there - vary the diet as much as you can though, you might end up throwing away a lot of food, but its worth it in the long term.

Part of a power struggle, and you really don't want to lose!If you are concerned, weigh her without letting on why and then keep an eye on her weight and make sure it stays within the scope of the usual charts. Unfortunately though it's what she needs. Drink is more important than food
Keep her watered and she'll eat when she's properly hungry.Gassing Station | The Pie & Piston Archive | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff

She has done since about 8 weeks
