And just how many sections are there on PH nowadays?

For instance, I created just a knock around thread on Friday night about Pink Floyd in P&P. It wasn't meant to be a long running thread, or particularly deep or insightful even. Just a bit of evening banter. But before I know it's been moved into Music and is now being taken as a serious thread over a few days. Why couldn't it just stay in P&P?

This afternoon/evening, a mod has been tidying up, and the Portuguese driver thread has been moved, and I see a Menezes thread got moved to Speed, Plod and the Law??? I thought SP&L was in respects to driving - not general law, and these aren't law issues either? These are political matters.

Can we get some consistency in the modding please?

And please can we stop creating more and more sections on PH. It's getting a bit stupid with a section for nearly everything. I never ever thought i'd say this but -

Isn't Pistonheads meant to be about the cars?

Pistonheads - Speed Matters (unless we need another section to the forum for some random st 3 people are interested in).

P&P is just a catch for all the threads that don't have specific forums.

Music type threads will be moved to music, food or drinks threads will be moved to FD&R forum.

SP&L Speed Plod and the Law, the Law refers to ALL law related topics regardless of whether they a car related or not.

The Mods are consistent by routine that's why topics are moved to their respective forums.

BTW if members posted in the correct forums we wouldn't have to move them around.

So its official that PH is no longer a car forum, but a general forum for anything?

What's the difference between PH and other more mainstream content providers like Facebook then? Doesn't it strike you that PH is losing its way? Strikes me that we are on the verge of PH having an identity crisis.

Can I just point out the irony of you posting a music thread about Pink Floyd when you keep saying PH is a car forum.

Try pressing Show all forums on the main Gassing Station page.

News to me, where have you heard that?

This big difference between PH & Facebook that I can see it's that PH is a car site and not a chat room IMHO. smile

I could understand the reasoning of having P&P to keep all the other garbage out of GG and various other places, and I fully put my hands up for making good use of P&P. But do we need all these other sections popping up?

I didn't even know there was a Music section on P&P until it got moved, and if I had have known about it, I still wouldn't have posted the PF thread in it. The PF thread was a community thread "what did people think" not a deep philosophical question that required it to be in the Music thread for it to go on for eons.

If I want a new guitar string I'd post it in the Music section. If I'm posting a thread on a Friday night, got the house to myself, and half half a block free outside so no-one is gonna moan about my stereo, and am asking for requests - why would I post it in Music for a small subsection of people to see?

And yes, I have Show All as a default. Doesn't mean i haunt other sections though. I don't sit back thinking "Lets visit the Music section. Now lets visit the hifi section. Now lets visit trainspotting section. How about the plane spotting section. Where does it stop? When every subject that could possibly be mentioned in P&P has its own section?

You will get the best response from the right forum, plus it is less likely to disappear off the front page. P&P threads drop off within 1/2 hour most days if not posted on and some people have a problem understanding what "next page" means.

All the forums have been requested because they are fed up with the garbage posted in P&P in response to serious threads.

If you have All forums on, then perhaps you should go to preferences and select a few you will commonly use to display only, if there is something else you can click back on Show all forums and see them all, then to go back to your preferences click Show Favourite Forums Only.

Easy.

Seems to me you need to use the "show all forums" and use the mark as read and what's new a bit more frequently there's some great stuff outside P&P.

Perhaps you shouldn't shout too load about PH being a car web site, HM might well take you seriously and close down P&P for good.

You just confirmed that with all the different sections and moving threads around. Why are you catering for all these other sections if its a car forum? I can understand people having other interests, but PH is slavishly following every single one of these tastes.

PH is becoming a distribution tool for your random ad placements.

Tell you what, I'll give you an example of where PH lost the plot. The Mustang section.

It used to be a lively place, but once S197.co.uk started up, virtually all the S197 owners left and can be found on their new haunt. Some like Lu51fer come and go, but by and large they stayed away. Was the Mustang section a section too far? Or not far enough? You only have to look at the posting on that forum to see what PH lost, informative threads and traffic about the S197.

Instead, PH fought back with a Sewing section. We do have a Sewing section right? If we don't I feel there's a missed opportunity there boys.

I'm probably not making my point very clear; it's something you have to see from this side of the keyboard I figure.

if they closed down P&P and all the other random crap I'd stick around. no problems with that.

but they won't. they invested a shed load of cash and want a return, and who can blame them? but at what cost?

It is, so do you think that the mods might just be a little bit fed up that we spend more of our time dealing with P&P matters than the rest of the forums put together, remember the mods are all car nuts who signed up as members to talk and read about cars in the first place.
You invite the savages to dinner and discover that they are savages. Who knew. If you create more sections and they themselves become popular aren't you just inviting more savages to dinner? Aren't those problems just multiplying up. And as for the down trodden mods, isn't it time HM paid you guys? I've heard how hard you all work, do you really get nothing in return?

Valid point - but were the 'savages' invited? P&P was created to clear the non-topic stuff out of GG which worked a bit too well and now people who have absolutely no interest in cars in a virtual residence of that forum. To add to this, quite a few people seem to think the P&P is a muppet forum where members can post lame crap (I forget the actual wording and will come back and edit that bit accurately- his actual words: "The serious car talk is for GG the random rubbish is for P&P, no?") when this simply is not the case and the fact that quite a number of members think this is a real bloody shame.
You mean - P&P isn't for random rubbish? To be honest, i'd say "random rubbish" was quite generous. I really hate to tell you this, but most PHers think P&P is random rubbish. And I'd say the savages in P&P that you guys deal with day in and day out have already escaped. Didn't Kinky have a run in with a couple of no brainers in Thames Valley for instance?

Why don't you mods start moderating really unevenly, sinbin a couple of retards for no reason and arrange another cathartic dummy throwing exercise so they all bugger off?

And is it my imagination but are some (many) of the 2008 dummy throwers back with different usernames?

I can see where Tinman is comming from here. I like the P&P for the randomness of it.

If you want to know something specific then post in a dedicated forum, but for general laughs or an on going discussion about recent events i think the P&P is the best place.

Its fun to see the Regulars tear apart the newbies and trolls.

Maybe its just me, but the stupid crap makes the P&P for me.

I just realised i probably post a lof of crap

PistonHeads ceased being simply a forum about cars a long time ago, whether we like it or not. Instead it has become a car enthusiasts forum, which is subtly different.

The P&P is getting too big for it's own (and the sites) good, so we are currently looking at how best to deal with it. As the mods have said, there is an awful lot of useful information and absolute genius humour in there which we don't want to lose. Unfortunately it tends to get lost in a mountain of dross which we could do without.

There seem to be a lot of people who think that PH has only two forums, GG for car threads and the P&P for everything else. These people miss an awful lot of what PH is about which is the sense of community and depth of knowledge which still exists in the smaller forums.

The smaller non-motoring forums are an attempt to give interesting discussions that would get quickly lost in the P&P more of a chance to run and to make it easier for members to find the topics that interest them. They are not just designed for serious discussion, there is as much place for light-hearted threads and humour in them as there is anywhere else on the site. Admittedly they don't tend to attract many of these kind of threads at the moment, but we would like to encourage a modest amount of (intelligent) humour into them.

The best way to browse PH (IMHO) is by using the "What's New" button in combination with the favourite forums list. This means you can tag the subjects/forums that you like once and then get a list of all the activity that interests you in one place without having to wade through the dross or jump between the different forums all the time.
