Hi Guys I need you help!,

I went to start my 93 chim and the doors wouldn't open. Assumed it was a drained battery again, but only charged it 2 weeks ago. I broke in the normal way and heard a wierd clicking sound and the door opening knob wouldn't turn. Sounded like the clicking was coming from under the dash and the centre leather panel, so I took the centre console off to reveal the central locking solanoid. The solanoid was in the locked position, therefore stopping the door opening knob from rotating. I tried turning off the TVR alarm with the key in the lock (push in, turn left, then all the way right) and also tunred off the Cobra alarm and then started to hear what sounded like a double clicking. (bloke I bought it off said when he had the cobra alarm fitted the alarm fitter could not work out how the TVR alarm was wired so left it as it was. So the car has the TVR imobiliser and the Cobra alarm!)

I took off the dash and tracked the clicking down to one of two boxes velcroed to the dash next to the relays.

I think its the alarm/s and I'm about to call in a specialist, but if you have any ideas I'm all ears. Also if anyone could reccomend a good auto electrician near Farnham, Surrey let me know pls!

Regards,

Martin

Best I can do is to suggest resetting everything.
Disconnect the earth from the battery, wait 20 seconds, reconnect, and immediately press the alarm/central locking plipper on your key fob.
Failing that, its a call to Carl Baker in the morning.

Good luck

I've tried that. Its fitted with a cut off switch so I turned it off and on a couple of times. The voltage was 11.5V which was a little low but not too bad.

It sounds like nothing more than a flat battery to me. 11.5V is too low.

What would you expect to pay to remove both the TVR alarm and the cobra alarm and fit a new alarm/imobiliser? £250, £300, £400+ ???

Right, I had a chat with Carl and his advice was to pull out the old (TVR/Gemini and the CObra Alarm)and put in a reliable new Meta Alarm. However in our discussion he mentioned that the two systems (I think it is the Gemini and the Cobra) could become unsycncronised. This seemed logical from what I was hearing (two clicking sounds from under the dash and an inability to unlock the doors, no mater what button I pressed)

I have since fully disconnected the battery to recharge it (having previsously used the battery isolation key/switch)and charged the battery (now 12.5V). I thought that maybe the alarm was hardwired to the battery and physically separating the battery from the car's wires may help!??

Once recconected, the cobra alarm seemed to work, but the fuel pump didn't spin up (like it normally does) and the doors were locked. As per normal when I disconnect the battery, I put the key in the door lock, pushed in/down, turn left, then right and the doors released and the fuel pump primed itself. Hey presto, the engine fired up!!

The dilema I am now left with is do I trust the alarm?? Will it be reliebale for a 2500 mile honey moon to Italy?? Was what I experienced, just a flat battery and an unsyncornising of the gemini and cobra alarm/imobilisers??

My thoughts are to try it out and have Carl have a look in a months time.

Any opinions??

Martin

Get a new battery and have the alternator checked before you go. TVR electrics are sensitive to a less than tip top battery.
