Can anyone let me know the best way to remove the window frames from a fhc. Do you need to take the window out with the frame?

The Bible looks to show the convertable version where the frame doesn't go over the top of the window.

There's not usually much holding them in... a few self-tappers into the top of the triangle at the front of the door and two nuts/bolts at the bottom of the door.
You should be able to slide the frame up off the glass, but of course you'll need to pack the glass as you do so, so it doesn't get damaged. Probably easier if you lower the glass first.

Thanks Ian, I'll give that a go but you almost make it sound too easy....

Yeah it's pretty simple - I've done it so it must be.

However, putting it all back...

Are replacement frames available?

If I decide to keep this car, I'll probably want to replace mine as they're getting pretty shabby and out of shape.

The last I heard, the factory would subcontract the fabrication to another company. They would copy some frames, but the results were (allegedly) disappointing and probably wouldn't fit your car. Oh, and £350 + VAT (1997). Each.
Later frames were fabricated fom a different type of channel to the early ones: also some home-made frames used whatever method was available! When I did repairs to my FHC, I worked out a way to make small pieces and let them in, but it was very time-consuming and difficult to do neatly. Might have to come up with a better method if/when my 390 needs its frames repairing...
Given the factory price, I think there's an opening for some enterprising chap to make a few bob...

Also heard of 2nd hand ones going for about £200 each.

Thats why I thought I'd give mine a clean up and fresh coat of paint before they get too knackered.

£350 + Vat a piece

Hmmmm...that's that idea out. What about taking then off and leaving them off, going for the framless look. Get some thicker rubber seal going round the hole in the body to make a better seal. Think the windows may not be held firmly enough for that though...

Now I'm confused. Taking the frame out was dead simple until the screw bracket at bottom rear of frame wouldn't go past the door lock. Loosened lock as far as possible but still can't remove frame without first moving lock and can't remove lock without first moving frame!!!

Does this mean the whole window mechanism needs loosening and moving or am I missing something obvious?
