Moles

On my commute to and from work I've started to notice hundreds of molehills at the sides of the road. They seem to be all along the kerb as though they've been digging along, bumped into the kerb, popped up looked and moved further down.

Is this just a local thing round here (Preston to Blackpool) or has anybody else noticed this.
