all that queueing, all those liquids thrown away, restrictions on baggage... extra searchs, huge mounds of lost luggage due to tighter security..... passenger delays..... aircraft delays.....

Must have cost the country billions.

Also, why will it last 10 months ? What's got to happen that will take so long ?

When I went to Singapore a few yeras ago a Malaysian chap was caught by the Police with a carrier bag of class A drugs on him, that was a Monday, he was in court on Wednesday and shot dead on Friday. That's what you call swift juctice ! Why can it not happen that quickly here ? (apart for the shooting bit, not keen on that)

If they are found not guilty it could be that:

1. They are not guilty
2. There was insufficient evidence
3. The prosecuting barristers were not as good as the defence barristers.

There have been a number of high profile cases were the outcome was wrong. In this country it is up to the jury to determine guilt or innocence based on the evidence of the case that is presented to them. That can take a long time for one defendant, factor in eight defendants with their own defence council and the time soon mounts up.

On a side note, I have just read an interesting article highlighting the fallibility of DNA testing.

Slightly OT, but rather than start another thread which may be deemed as dismissive I thought I would raise my issue here. I will choose my words carefully at risk of another religous war thread..

This morning I just watched Panorama on iPlayer about the Muslim Extremists. Until now I have brushed it off as propaganda but after watching this I am starting to question in what direction things will go.

If you have a spare thirty minutes, watch the program. Even counting asside any propaganda slant from Panorama (although I have found their reports to be quite unbiased), they have made me raise an eyebrow. The adults can make up their own minds and I have no problem with their beliefs, but the training of children being brought up to disregard English laws I find to be totally worrying. Far worse is the fact that all the muslim cleric activities go on behind closed doors and now they are not wanting to allow non-muslims in to witness them.

Question I asked myself after watching the program was:

• The church of England does not object to non-followers attending their churches and has nothing to hide so why should muslim places of worship be any different?
• Where is their integration within our society?
• Why are leaders that are (as seen on camera) clearly trying to destabilise our country allowed to preach advising followers to flout our laws?
• Why is the Home Office paying islamic groups chunks of cash for buying into a policy that clearly no muslim is going to accept if it's against their own policies?

I was somewhat shocked after watching the documentary. Extremists are fast becoming a new catch-phrase like terrorist were twenty years ago. Once 'these people' start to realise they are gaining popularity within their culture, the future to me looks very unstable.

These are the questions I have asked myself and are not meant to be inflammatory in any way. Has anyone else who has watched it care to comment?

If the guys are proven guilty chalk another one upto MI5, they seem to do a pretty good job as a whole, mind years of practice thanks to the troubles probably helped.

Given the present hysteria surrounding the whole Muslin Extremism thing, I'd say there is a very good chance that they aren't guilty, and a very good chance that they wont get a fair trial.
