Chaps,

How much is a LSD and where's the best place to get one from?

The car is still with the dealer who, in fairness, is being very professional and is making sure the car is one 100% before I pick it up. It isn't quite as smooth into 3rd gear as it should be and after changing the oil in the 'box to the Noble recommended fluid it's still not perfect. As such they're going to strip and re-build the 'box.

Whilst they've got it all apart is seem like false economy not to fit a LSD, what are the collective thoughts?

Sounds like you've got yourself a good dealer there?
Fitting the LSD is a no brainer and to my knowledge, it's a Quaife LTB. http://www.quaife.co.uk/What-is-a-Quaife-ATB-diffe...
Not sure how much they are these days but you might want to consider the clutch aswell being a consumable item?

If they are going to do all of that, it might be worth looking at the economics of putting a six speed in.

I don't think the budget would quite run to a 6-speeder and an M400 linkage... that said, how much are they- No, I must be firm, I could justify the LSD, past that would be difficult.

I hope so, it really wasn't that bad whilst driving so I am impressed that they've offered to do it - they certainly seem to be a professional bunch, but time will tell I suppose.

All being well it should be done for Tuesday, a bit of a pain as it was supposed to be today. Was looking forward to the weekend as Mrs Thrust is away and I'd have had two whole days to mess about with the new toy.

I don't know how, but a large part ofthe cost is the labour, removing and replacing the engine/gbox

As a matter of course you would replace the clutch

Hmmm, do the gear selectors (cables I mean) ever need adjusting?

Just wondering if something is out of alignment, is this ever a problem?

Yes, mine was dodgy selecting third, turned out to be a cable. Same happened to fourth a year later with the same fix. Not been too bad at all since.

If the Gearbox is out and being rebuilt then I would strongly suggest that you get the box strengthened. Not required for std power but rest assured you will over time get more and wish you had done this for peace of mind. I wish I had.

Ah!!

What was the solution, new cable? If adjusting, what was done, how was it adjusted?

Not sure. The garage did it as part of some other bits. I think one of the fixes was the replacement a broken cable and the other an adjustment (so not quite the same fix each time, but...).
From what the mechanic said it was a simple job but I don't know any further details I'm afraid.

Thanks, I'll pass it on to the garage.

After a spot of investigation it turns out that the car has already been fitted with an LSD so am chuffed with that.

How do you know if the car has a LSD fitted? With both rear wheels in the air, if i rotate one wheel the opposite wheel rotates in the opposite direction so i know it has a slip diff, but how do you know if it has a LSD?

It rotates in the same direction with an LSD, with a normal open diff, as you say, it rotates in the opposite direction.

Remember the Noble diff is an ATB device so it's not that easy...
