It's not a recall. It's a rework of the front propshaft coupling. Essentially an extra CV joint is installed at the front of the front prop and the splined sliding joint is deleted. It only affects the 2002-2005 cars.
Shouldn't take more than half a day to carry out.

Maybe yours has been done already?

I called my local LR dealer as soon as I heard about the replacement program. They booked the car in & did the work FOC

I also called my local dealer and they had the car in and did the front diff FOC. They wanted it for a day and gave me a car to use. It is strange that it doesn't seem to be treated as a recall, I don't know anyone who has actually been contacted by LR to bring the car in.

On the other hand, LR don't see it as an immediate safety issue, thus will probably do it at the next normal service. And you don't get any documentation to say that it's been done. Everything is recorded on their computer for the vehicle, when I asked for some kind of receipt to say it had been done all they could suggest was to print the screen of the car's LR record!

So if you've had a service recently it might even have been done without your knowing! If not then I believe they should book it in if you ask.

Likewise I wasn't contacted, just phoned the dealer and they booked it straight in. All done FOC, though they did try to charge me for oil level being too low, so they had to top it up before they could test drive... told them where to stick that one!

Interestingly, Lancaster LR chose not to charge me for topping up the oil. Probably by way of apology as their TDV8 wasn't available. Mind you, I did turn up at slightly short notice.
