Afternoon all, I am about to replace the brake pads on my S2 Exige n/a.

I have had a look through previous posts on the subject and have decided that pagids seem to be the pads for me.

My question is what are the differences between the RS14 and RS42 and which would be more suitable?

The car has standard discs but braided hoses but I am not sure of the previous brand of brake pads, just that I never liked the feel of them.

The car is only used as a fast road car (sacrilege (sp.? I know...) but as based in the Isle of Man, it does get to stretch its legs once in a while so wondered which of the 2 pagids I should go for?

Many thanks

Chaz

Just seen Chevron's post and people seem to be recommending the RS42s for the elise, assume this will suit my exige also?

From what i've been told...RS14s are for track work(need proper heating before use,can squeal like a pig)and the RS42s are more fast road biased(but perfectly ok on track).

Shall be investing in some RS42s shortly smile

RS42's great on the road, and great for trackdays. RS14's are amazing on the track and will take more abuse, but squeal more when used for road, and are much harder on the disk.

If you are mainly road use I would stick to the RS42's, great feel and stopping power, fade is not an issue on the road

+2. If you don't want to go to the expense of RS42's you may find SBS Protrack's to be an excellent alternative. I did.

If you want to spend the money then RS42's for road use (although I've never had a problem with RS14 or RS29 squealing on an Elise), if you want something cheaper then Mintex 1155. We use both, they have their pros and cons. I generally use RS14 or RS29 on the front and Mintex 1155 on the back, we arrived at this 'compromise' after having issues with rear lock up on our Elise race cars. Drop me a note if you want any more info or if you're struggling to get hold of them.

We're about to trial some Performance Friction pads, not that common in the Lotus world but well respected by Porsche guys.

No one going to mention the yellowstuff pads? A few months ago people raved about them, so what's gone on there then? Just wondering, I had promissed myself a set of them, that's all. Or is it that they just aren't flavour of the month?

Still got mine fitted, really impressed with them once they are warm, were really good around the ring also. A big thumbup from me.

Nowt wrong with the new Yellowstuffs. They work well from cold on the road (they like a little warmth but get that within a few miles) and have stood up to my use on track fine (I'm not fast mind). I really like the low levels of dust they produce as well.
I might get the Carbon Lorraine pads that Randy has started selling next (depends how my funds are) or Pagid RS42. I like to try different stuffthumbup
Incidently I didn't think the SBS pro pads were available for the Elise any more?

Thanks very much for the all the responses, very useful indeed.

I am now going to order a set RS42's from elise-parts.com at £209.05 (excl. Vat). This seems to be the going rate but if anyone knows otherwise, please let me know.

Cheers once again. thumbup

Good Choice, they are brillant pads well worth the money, make huge difference over standard. I got mine slightly cheaper but then cost of fitting at plans motorsport in Surrey.

Good choice - I put RS42s on both my elise and my Exige, well worth the difference.

if that's true it's a shame. Got them fitted to mine at the moment and been quite impressed on and off track

Is that a price for all four corners? I need pads for mine and I'm really struggling with the thought of paying £200+ for a consumable that might not last very long. What I'd like to know is if there is a pad that offers 90% of the Pagid performance for a lot less outlay.

I think it is approx £100 for all 4 corners. And I cant say that they are 90% of RS42s as I havnt used them yet, but they are very good. Major step up from the Lotus originals
I think that everyone that has used them so far has been impressed with their performance and at the same time the amount of dust generated is very small.
