Got burgled last weekend - as in this thread:

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Obviously need to start getting quotes to replace my 2001 Specialized Enduro FSR Pro, ( http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/BikeSpecs.aspx?... which hasn't been found.

Hopefully I'll get to spend the equivalent on the replacement, but I'm sure they will wriggle out of the full amount. I have been out of the loop for some time getting fat, and have to admit I never really got on with the full Susp, being quite a light bloke at fighting weight (10 stone) and a convert from being a roady to an mtber, I always found it dissapointingly heavy and preffered the ride on my old Cannondale beast of the east...

So, to stop twittering, what hardtail to replace it with?

What would the equivalent spec be now?

(Edited to apologise for spelling in title)

I have to ROFL at the obsession with Cove on here.

Sounds to me like you want something light, fast, and racy (as do most roadie converts), yes?

So how about

Specialized Stumpjumper HT
Cannondale Taurine
Scott Scale
Giant XTC Alliance (Or full carbon)
Commencal Skin

?

Whats the budget?
Considering you are a racing roadie whippet , then maybe the Coves arent for you (well, the hummer maybe.. ) They are heavy bikes designed for North Shore burly XC. You should be looking at carbon and Aluminium for a quick XC race rig.
But again, what do you want to do with it?

i would look at the charge duster. its a lovely looking steel frame and has good xc geometry.
the cove stiffee or handjob may be too aggressive for your taste. the charge is quite indiivdual.

Haha! used to be! I need to lose a good 2 stone to get back to that! Due to dodgy knees I'll never be the rider I was, but having worked in the bike trade as a kid, and racing for a few years, I just can't bring myself to have a cheap/heavy bike again frown. TBH It wont get the use it deserves unless I really get back into it - 2 young kids not old enough to ride yet for a start. However I do live right next to the south downs way so no excuse I suppose.

Budget will depend on the insurers I suspect, but unless they deal with it direct, I can't justify spending more than £1000. If the insurers are crappy then It will have to drop to £750. I would happily get something 2nd hand off ebay though.

Funnily enough, the wifes bike was nicked too and it was a stumpy HT - I liked it - but it was too big for me biggrin shes 6 ft and I'm a short arse biggrin They have found it but I dread to think what state its in. No idea what the insurance will say money wise if its recovered damaged.

I used to love Cannondale B900's (Beast of the East), lovely bike to ride, although very stiff.

If I was buying off the shelf now, I'd get the lastest Stumpjumper hardtail, looks ace

Wifes bike is back. Pretty much untouched. They dumped it because luckily, I had borrowed a bolt from the stem/barclamp for the kit car, so they couldn't ride it without the bars going loopy. From what they took from the other place, it's obviously kids rather than professionals, so I'll keep my eye out. They dumped the neighbours bike down the road in a front garden. I hope they can ride fast because they wont be riding for a while if I get hold of them.

If you are after something that reminds you of your old Cannondale might I recommend a Cannondale?

I have a Rush 600 which is awesome, light and fast, and with enough travel/stiffness to spank many an XC.
