Help! Cat trapped in neighbours garage. They're on holiday!
Discussion
We lost our cat on Saturday. This morning my wife hears some tragic cries for help from next doors' garage and puts 2 and 2 together.
The other neighbour thinks they've gone away for the week.
We can push cat food under the door but water's not really possible. Whats the consensus on what to do? RSPCA say we may have to get the locksmith out to break into their garage. They said let the police know and they may attend during. I can't see the police being to keen on doing this. Would the fire brigade be an avenue?
Oh and say we did break in with police blessing, would they be right to feel violated? I kind of would to be honest. Buuuuut on the other hand she may be trashing their garage with wee and poo!
Just waiting at the moment in case they come home tonight. No-one has any contact numbers for them.

Any windows you can remove the glass from? Some UPVC ones take about two minutes to do and can be put back together without any damage.

Positive it's our cat as she keeps sticking out her paw from a small gap under the door. Wife is splashing water under there every hour or so.
RSPCA basically said there's not much they can do as animal is not actually injured as such and they have no right to break and enter anyway, so next step would be the locksmith...

Have you spoken to the Police or just assumed that they won't be interested?
If you're planning to break and enter someone else's property then you need the Police to be involved. I'd be surprised if a locksmith would do this without the Police being present.
I'd talk to BiB and the locksmith on-site and find the best way to get in and then rectify the damage caused. I don't really think you've got much choice have you?
Has nobody got a mobile number for the neighbours?

Garages are usually very easy to get into unless your neighbour has invested in some heavy duty security. If it is an up and over type door then you can usually open it with a large screwdriver without even causing damage.
i would get in causing minimal damage. Let the Police know you are doing it. Then explain to the neighbours and have it repaired as good as new.

I'm sure your neighbours are reasonable people, and they will understand you using a locksmith & the Police to get into their garage to rescue the cat. I'm sure they'd prefer that to finding it seriously ill Oh and say we did break in with police blessing, would they be right to feel violated? I kind of would to be honest. Go to or ring your local Station, and ask them.
ETA - good luck! Poor little mite

Unless the cat got locked in when they shut the big garage door the cat must have found another way?
Still, you should be able to squease the dry cat food through the gaps similar to that's been usggested with water although best not the same spot.
Also if your neighbours garage is full of hash plants or is set up for bondage I doubt they'll appreciate you opening it all for both the police & neightbours to see.

Personally I'd be gaining access and then securing the garage afterwards.
However, to cheer you up a little, our stupid mog was stuck in a garage for two weeks and survived. He was very hungry and rather dirty when he got out, but he survived. They're tougher than you think.
Luck.
