Well, not as a driver. As a crew member, mechanic, etc.

The problem is that I don't know anyone who I can approach or even races themself. I'm not a trained mechanic, but I am a Engineer (Civil/construction) by trade and work on engines/cars/bikes in my spare time. So I have a understanding of mechanics. I've also been watching drag racing for the last 10 years and really want to get involved in the crewing side of things.

What can I do to help myself?

Andy's suggestion is a good one and if you keep an eye on Eurodragster.com News then we quite often have pieces from racers seeking crew. For example Derek Flynn was looking for crew for his injected-nitro dragster not so long ago and may still be.
