Hey man. As I mentione on the online dating thread I did M'sport also and we were only tought Solidworks but..... Solidworks and CATIA are both Dassault Systems and they use more or less the same interface. The main difference is that CATIA V5 is a lot more powerful and stable than Solidworls.Wish our Uni used CATIA, we just use solidworks, its Motorsport FFS!
If you can use Solidworks, You can pick-up CATIA in a day or two, in my first CAD job I just said I knew CATIA in the interview and turned up and learnt the details on the job.
It's easy enough to pick-up a knock-off copy of CATIA to get the gist of it.
If anybody is interested then Dassault Systems are nearly finished with Catia Version 6.
It will be part of a much larger product management lifecycle software.

I've been having a play with CATIA, my mate (doing M'sport back home at Coventry Uni got "hold" of a copy 
) gave me a copy of V5, its similar yes, but I prefer it, seems more natural than solidworks, I'm already further in CATIA with self taught stuff than I am with solidworks with lessons at uni (they just go through the solidworks tutorials, bit pointless tbh)I was interested that they were the same brand, but apparently D'assault acquired solidworks some time ago, and CATIA is definately the more pro package, solidworks at least is more Product Design rather than engineering analysis and the like.
Just out of interest was it at Derby you did Motorsport?

I moved to Derby after Uni' for a job with one of Toyotas suppliers.
Quickets way to learn CATIA, find somethin in your house and model it, parts and assemblies. Then try and modify it without it f
