Spoke to my family member who is an special WPC today.

She warned me that "the M4 speed cameras are live and to watch out around newbury"...

I pointed out that it was a well established hoax and there is not a problem.

She said that they are live and the police have been told about them in briefing?!???

I then pointed her to the thames vally police website which CLEARLY STATES it is a hoax. She denied it and says they are with the signs and they have switched them on.

Now I am 99% sure it is a hoax simply because I have gone down that stretch of motorway to check it (as a passenger) and there is no viable technology showing at the front or back of the signs that could perform the task.

So why are the police telling their own that there are cameras???????????

Her boss has just had the email that's been on here 40 times already. He's then believed it and told his adoring masses about it.

Remember: They're Automatic Number Plate Recognition Cameras designed to catch the scumbags who don't pay tax or insurance. Drive down there and expect a visit from plod when you get home...

So, they are there to catch those with no tax or insurance, but have registered the car in their real name and address...that should work well...

Where DID you get that from?

TVP say, "The Highways Agency has installed new signs between J 12 and J 14 of the M4 as part of a year long pilot project to reduce congestion and collisions. The signs have two CCTV cameras. One which monitors the sign itself to make sure its working and displaying the right message; and another to monitor the congestion to evaluate the effect the sign is having on the traffic." HA says, "New CCTV will also help police monitor incidents and provide information to motorist about road conditions."

Nothing about ANPR.

And here's me thinking Ted's been to the Alistair Campbell School of Spinning (formerly the Marx-Lenin-Castro School) ... say it loud and often and the proles will believe it!
