Thinking about a lodger - do I feed him?

My son and I are rattling around in our 4 bed house so I'm going to take in a lodger and giving him the double room with en-suite. It can't be a "her" I'm afraid for political reasons.
Now I used to be a lodger in my yoof and the landlady used to cook me meals. But the last thing I want to be doing is thinking about somebody else's culinary preferences, planning meals for three (or even four of the son's g/f is here) and being here to cook at the alloted times.
Is it normal for the lodger to be given his/her own fridge and shelf in the larder and tell him to get on with it helping himself to the utensils?
PS does anybody want lodgings in Shrewsbury?

Getting their own fridge and a larder shelf is more than I've had before when I've been lodging. In the nicest possible way, they probably won't want the hassle of eating with you anyway.
When I lodged in the summer I paid £75 pw including internet/sky etc.
The lady I was living with was happy to cook for me whenever she was cooking a meal, sometimes this would be once a fortnight, but sometimes two/three times a week. I was able to help myself to any food that was in the house.

I'm about to start doing a Monday-Friday rental in Bristol, still negotiating price but that will be around £65/£75 per week inclusive of all bills but excluding food. As said, I'd be looking for a shelf or so of fridge and freezer space and a cupboard of my own to keep stuff in.
Monday-Friday letting might be worth looking at depending on the area you're in, you don't have the hassle of people's weekend activities and most are home-owners elsewhere so probably house trained!
I was actually thinking about getting a lodger too!
My lodger has rent & bills (not phone) included in the monthly fee. We share the fridge/freezer no problems. The pizza chips & Cider are mine the rabbit food is hers.

I've just taken one on, £100 a week for all bills. No food etc included but they have a cupboard for their stuff. Quite gutted as after i said yes to them and agreed moving date etc i had an email from 2 female students wanting a double room and didnt mind sharing a double bed for 6 weeks.
