i cant fecking believe it 
im half way through converting my house into flats. ive just let the finished one out.
i have just had some quotes for various works: as follows: (cash in hand basis)
a painter to paint 2 very small outside walls,less than 1 days work £350 (supply 1 tin of paint costing £25)
a plasterer to provide 1 days labour £390 (+3 bags plaster tops £15)
a builder to provide 2 days work £850
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what the feck is wrong with these people, do they not need the work or what i thought there was a credit crunch at the moment and people were short of work !
i simply cannot understand the mentality of these quotes. it was even discussed before the price was given that if it were competetive then plenty of follow on work was available!

being a tradesman myself i am luckily busy, hence needing to call in people.
but im fecked if i charge getting on for £400 a day!
particuarly for a painter! aka if you can p1ss you can paint.
and bear in mind im paying cash in hand.

unfortunatly its mostly plastering at the mo, but if he is local i will be needing a chippy in a couple of months.

What is he going to be doing in those 2 days?Either way, that's still a hell of a lot for 2 days work!
this is in a small toilet and small bathroom.
I've been in this business for years and have never had rates like that quoted. You sure these blokes have seen the job, they obviously think it's going to take a return visit or longer than you think.
Be cheaper to go to a trade labour agency, you will not pay more than £15 an hour for any of the above trades.

i cannot comprehend how they arrive at these prices. i know alot of tradesmen who have no work at all, but annoyingly i dont know any builders/ plasterers.
i have another plasterer coming tomorrow to quote the days work so lets hope he's more reasonable.
i agree, if i went the agency route it would be much cheaper, although personally i fecking hate employment agencies.
