Do the Magnecor leads make a big difference on their own or are other mods needed to make the most of them ? Just considering my first step into upgrading scratchchin (posssibly).

Can’t really see how a set of leads could improve performance unless the old ones are breaking down in which case you can notice a considerable improvement. Not really an upgrade more a case of fixing a fault. I fitted a set because one of the originals had become “leaky” and were wasting sparks to the block. The symptom on mine was a reluctance to rev cleanly which was fixed by replacing them, I suspect any new set of leads would have had the same effect but the Magnicores do give the appearance that they may last a little longer than the originals.

Lots of thread about magnecore leads on here. A well know TVR garage advises against them. When I suggested to that garage that I moved to magnecore they said they have found in the past that lumpy running can be cured by replacing magnecores with standard land rover leads.

Who knows if they are right, but personally I wouldnt spend the money

Oooh fun, been a while since we had one of these.

Didn't the last one degrade into a "there are faulty batchs" verses "we've never had a faulty lead" followed by suggestions of legal action...?

Or was that the one before? hehe

We kept changing the Lucas ones as they kept breaking down. Put Magnecors on, no issues since. We were also told by a reputable TVR garage not to use them. Got them on both Griffs, no problems.

A technical down side can be the reduced lead resistance can cause the rev counter to glitch as the back emf generated in the coil is higher, and the rev counter mistakes the higher spikes for extra RPM. If your car does not do it all well and good, and if it does, just replace the king lead with a standard lead to increase the HT path resistance. Still silly money for no perfomance gain.

I have used Magnecor leads for years and not had any problems, so based on my own limited experience I consider them a good safe bet. But I was put off the company by the very heavy handed response from them when the issue of reliability was raised previously, to be honest that left a very nasty taste in my mouth. Products fine, but I don't think that's a company that I want to deal with in future.

I missed that argument. From my point of view i listened to what I was told by an indy that had seen issues.

It seems they work for some not for others. As with many things a faulty batch can degrade a products reputation, but quality control should mean faulty items don't get as far as the consumer. (I know, the real world isnt like that)

I use neither magnecore nor lucas originals, but some 10mm ones that I bought from the Kitcar show. They work fine and cost me about £55 for the set.

I have a set of the comp jobbies and they have been great.

As was Tim of ACT - the coil to dizzy lead was too short by about 4 inches for my TVR and Tim sorted it out without any quibble .. just what you want as a customer.

IMHO - other leads do the same job and cheaper .. but as they say - you pays your money and takes your choice.

They are a bit bling and do look great but are pricey.

I was advised against magnecor leads on the TVR too. When the car was standard I used Land Rover leads and when modified I listened to the advice (for once) and made my own. (mainly because no-one made them the right length for my coilpack location...) The parts came from Track Car Solutions. I dare say Joo can make a set for you if you ask, but it's probably not worth the effort for a standard car.

I have Magnecor leads on the Impreza and have had no spark related issues. They felt better quality than the OE Subaru ones so will probably last a bit longer, but offered no extra performance. They were, however, cheaper and easier for me to get than OE Subaru parts.
