I guess plenty of people have the wheels off their cars at present - could anybody check whether the face that meets the hub is finished (painted / coated) on their wheels or bare metal? I've always assumed that they were bare metal, hence the corrosion between them and am having a few issues with a wheel refurbisher that clearly thinks differently mad

If anybody want advice on wheel refurbishments in the Birmingham area feel free to contact me for the good and the bloody awful!

Usually bare metal and I assume that's because the surface has been machined to give a perfectly flat mating surface.

Had the same when I had my Imolas painted

After the track day at Rockinghams 60th aniversary the paint had got so hot due to the mating face with the brake disc that the paint softened and started to run out from the mating surfaces

This does mean that as the paint melted and ran out I had to retourque the nuts more than once

Suffice to say that I scraped it all off when I got back and have had no problems since

I'd leave them bare metal if I were you

Cheers

Wheels are going to somewhere else on Monday so by Wednesday I should know if I've found the good as well as the awful! I'll let you know.
