Pet Chimp attacks woman

The link to the actual recording of the 999 call on this page is quite hard to listen to after a while.
Can't help but think it serves her right for keeping what is essentially a muscle covered in hair as a pet.
"Police in the US state of Connecticut have released the emergency call made by Sandra Herold when the chimp mauled her 55-year-old friend Charla Nash.
The near 200lb chimp - named Travis - was toilet trained, could dress and bathe himself, used to eat at the table and drink wine from a stemmed glass.
But Travis snapped and attacked Ms Nash for no apparent reason, according to police Lieutenant Richard Conklin. Police shot and killed the animal when they arrived at the property in Stamford, Connecticut.
The victim suffered serious facial injuries and remains in a critical condition in hospital. In a frantic 911 call Travis can be heard shrieking in the background as Ms Herold cries: "He's killing my friend... Send the police out with a gun...
"He ripped her face off. He's trying to attack me."
When the dispatcher asks: "Who's killing your friend?", she screams: "My chimpanzee. He ripped her apart."

Very quick to do this when it's an animal - why don't they do this to humans when they attack people, might alter peoples thinking a bit

That was just a meduim chimp, they come in extra large too.
A womam, near me has chimps, her and her husband are ex circus and she refuses to give them up because of animal testing.
These things are kept in cages a lot more sustantial than those shown on the news for this chimp. There is a "second rail" similar to that seen in zoos.
I stayed way back from that rail, these things were really aggressive and left little doubt in my mind they wanted a peice of me.
There is no way you would survive an attack from one of these things.
They did respond a bit to her commands, but basically they were wild and angry. Her husband had the chimp act and according to other people was "a little strict" which could account for their displeasure at me (male).
She had a dog act and trained dogs for films, nice women but I would not want to live next door.

Big news here in the 'States this morning.
It's being reported that the poor woman has lost both eyes, her nose and part of her jaw.
I heard a rumour yesterday that the chimps had eaten her hands too!
Furthermore, it appears that the owner, a single woman of about 60, slept in the same bed as the chimp & that the chimp had bitten another woman several years ago.
ETA: The chimp was also on drugs to subdue it as it had been behaving agressively in the days leading up to the attack
