I'm 2000 miles from my inspection 2 service on 53-reg MCS. If you haven't reached that stage yet, it's the 60k mile service - a pretty major one. I'm out of warranty and TLC so the (garage) world is my oyster.

I have been ringing round for quotes. The best I had was £203, with the majority being around £260. These were using factor parts.

I rang the dealer, just for a laugh. But they surprised me. Service on it's own £305 (scary). BUT, buy the TLC-XL package for £318 and get 3 years' or 30k miles additional TLC. That includes inspection 2, the next oil service and a brake fluid change. Plus of course, genuine parts and some pretty stamps in my service book.

So which do I go for? I can't help wondering whether the main dealer service history is worth it in a recession when cars are having value hacked off them on an almost daily basis. But then it does seem like pretty good value and it would use genuine parts. Any views?

I've only had the car serviced once so far, but if I was in your situation I would go down the official route, provided you like your garage.

I figure that the servicing works out fairly cheap and if they advise that any extra work needs doing, well, at that point I would consider getting it fixed elsewhere!

Advantages are a signed book, thorough inspections and you still get cheap fixes when required!

I've been using North Oxford Mini and they seem excellent.

Get the TLC, but if there is a problem that they highlight just hope its something you can drive away with and get fixed elsewhere

burns76, I see you mention a 206 'WRC' in your profile - did that have a WRC style bodykit?

The 206 rally car looked brilliant.

I can't find any pictures of a special edition online :'(

Yes it was some special edition thing they did. I swear I will never buy another Pug! That thing left me stranded too many times - once over 150 miles from home! Got rid of it in favour of my beautiful MCS and I have never looked back. Very happy I changed - even after 3 years I still grin like a mad woman every time I hear the whine of the supercharger! Mini rules!
