replacing battery tomorrow - anything silly I might forget

bought a new battery for the Tusker

plan to fit tomorrow - have done this sort of thing many times before BUT is there anything silly I need to be careful of?

not really, Its a bit of a pain getting it in and out as the leads havnt got a lot of slack in them but other than that its fine.

When i disconnected the old battery and then connected up the new one the alarm went off........I don't know how i stopped it, but pressing the buttons on the key fob and attaching the imoboliser key to the botton next to steering column seemed to cure it.
I did this for a few minutes while being glared at by the neighbours before it eventually stopped.

Erk - isn't there an immobiliser rolling code reset sequence that should followed (I don't know what that might be)?
Asking because I want to replace my Anderson connector soon which will mean a battery out job as well. The above was stalling me...

nope I took mine out and dropped the new one in. All it did was arm the alarm when I connected it up. Works as normal now. Also the battery was flat for 2 weeks so the alarm was dead for quite some time.

You should give the cables a good inspection while your changing the battery or the anderson connector, simple but important.

make sure you have the key outside the car when you swap batterys as when i did it the car locked itself and set the alarm off

I just tried replacing mine, problem was, the battery stated as being for a Tuscan (Varta E12) wasn't it was just too big!! (only by 5mm)

Type 096R Varta Blue Dynamic 12V 74Ah.
Varta DIN: 574 013 068

Can anyone tell me which is the correct one? Is there any difference between pre & post 2003 cars?

I've just replaced the Battery on my Tuscan. Took the old one in to my local Battery shop and came out with a Motaquip Battery 3 : Ref VBY8. Fits perfectly

I got it from Allan Kay Components on 01302 369515 at a cost of £52.26 incl VAT

Do you know what standard fit this is?

due to stupid DIY I haven't put the battery on yet - does anyone know the max dimension the battery can be as now you have me worried

I got a Varta Blue dynamic Battery

Length x Width x Height278mm x 175mm x 190mm

frell - just realised mine is the same as C15's

caution if you buy one from performance batteries then........wrong sizes.

Measured my old one and it is:-

Length x Width x Height
255mm x 180mm x 210mm

God knows what it is out of.. but just checked the entire Varta listing and cannot find one to fit with over 66A...

the old one is a Tungsten...

Directly from VARTA I am in Germany at the moment. I looked at using a Hacksaw, but I would have to take off the bits of the battery used to secure it in place, and on one side of the Battery tray (+ve) there is a hook bracket, which would cut into the battery itself, so I didn't want to do that, and as the old one is a perfect fit including the positioning and clamping lugs, I thought it must be also available in Germany..

I thought it might be a Land Rover type.. but looked at all of those...

I will go to German Halfords tonight and see if I can find one, problem is over here they all want exact car details etc. as they cannot us a measuring tape.!!!

Nope just been there, took the old one with me, they have absolutely nothing which will fit, beyond hacking off the sides of the battery. Is my car an odd one? As they have 2 different types of battery listed for pre 2001 and post 2001 cars.?

I have the same Varta as you - found the same problems with various suppliers
"can have a smaller one but not with a "sufficient" Ah figure"
