I am in the process of planning a trip to Australia (maybe Fiji too). I plan to go at the end of the year, or early 2010, so yes i have a lot of time tongue out Planning is half the fun though!

If you have been, what did you enjoy most? and what did you not enjoy so much?

How long a trip are you planning?

If you're in Sydney for NYE budget to be on a harbour cruise, don't be one of the 1.5million plebs who queue from 9 in the morning to be on the foreshore. We paid about £250 PP for a all inclusive on the Glass Pontoon. The best veiw of the fireworks imaginable.

Well worth a trip to Wildfire and ordering the Wood Fired Churraso, great food. http://www.wildfiresydney.com/. Considering recent events it might have changed its name by the time you get there.

I wish I could have spent longer in Byron Bay and got a few surf lessons in.

Seconded on Byron Bay. I dd a week long surf trip up from Sydney which ended there. The surf trip was a great to get about the country a little whilst doing the obligatory attempt at learning to surf.

Byron Bay was by far my favourite place in Australia, it was really chilled with a great party scene. If you are going to be hosteling it then try and book a bed at Aquarius Backbackers. It is also near the Hippy town of NinBin if that is your cup of tea.
