street commodores - around 100 quid inc postage for 14 issue annual subscription

Yep Street Commodores is a good one.

US wize GM High Tech Performance is good. Plenty of GTO's in there and Id say G8 (VXR8) soon if not already. Some good tech info.
Arguably this is better than the Oz mags which are more pictures of cars than articles about them. But it depends on what you want I suppose.

Also popularhotrodding is a bit more technical, but more generic.

If you want to go all out technical get Race Engine Technology. Covers F1 through to Nitromethane dragster engines right down to molecular level. (eg) Alloys grown from single crystals in a vacuum for strength and minimal to zero impurities. Good articles on valvetrain harmonics, piston construction and alloys, coatings. Like DLC etc, etc anyway you get the picture. This is my favourite mag. I think Granada might also like it

.. and because I know you guys want to know about camshaft and pushrod dynamics and design, then here is a same of a couple of RET (Race Engine Technology) articles. Its a UK mag too. So you can support local industry during the recession

I've got loads of back issues going back to launch of Monaro 2nd time round in Oz picked up on ebay and 18 months worth of subs now and its got loads of interesting stuff in it but it does feature a hell of a lot of "old" Commodores so don't expect it to be wall to wall VE series and Monaro articles. Loads of stunning cars just the same.
