i'm not bothered about the short service intervals as my cars only do 5k per year

so other than that they seem to be a good car

I agree with Mat Hammond, the RS is definatley more focused and raw

Depends how much rawness you actually want. If you want something slightly easier to live with then Evo 7s are looking cheap.

What would your budget be?

Good.
Very good.

But remember the service is 4.5k miles / 6 months, so 2 per year no matter the mileage.

thanks i didnt realise it was every 6 months but it wont be a problem a good friend of mine is a techy, so I only pay for beer and parts

I really liked the look of the Evo 6 and had a good look round and a sit in it, the pedals seemed very close together but that was prob me being used to my Auto T5, shame I wasnt able to test drive it as the sales guy was on his own this afternoon but he said i could get a drive next time no problem




I had a good chat with the sales man about what I wanted from the car and he recomended a impreza sti version 7 , he has owned Both and said the subaru is a better everyday road car and more comfy to spend miles in..... where as the EVO 6 is alot more focused and harsh on the road

tbh and to my surprise i really liked the look of it and it felt good inside


both cars are the same milage and price BUT the subaru is a bit newer, this is going to require ALOT of thought...will be getting a test drive in both cars real soon

Make sure when you test them that you use all the revs. I found with the Scooby STi that the torque starts later (3500 as opposed to 3000rpm) and tails off earlier.

If they're standard then the Evo is supposed to be 276bhp, but is more likely 300. STi (Uk model) was 265bhp.

Both are fun cars, though.

cheers, that is what the salesman said about the power delivery of the Subaru too

That's probably a faily accurate summary really. Don't think I would particularly like an Evo as an everyday car as it can be a bit wearing after a while but in many ways thats part of the appeal of a focused drivers car.

Evo all the way over a bug eye scooby for me.

Taken a shine to Evos' myself recently. Similar situation to you Simon in that I do most of my driving for pleasure - commute via train, b-road hoolaganism on the weekend So a bit of focus/harshness fine by me.

Just bought an Evo 6 TME - fairly standard engine with intake and drony Blitz Nur-Spec exhaust.

Is on coil overs which when at softest setting are OK for the road.

Fun car with a nice torquey engine even off boost - very surprising.

Go on the MLR website - they have a good buyers guide.

Congrats. Same exhaust as mine.
You should stand on the pavement and let someone else give it some high revs up the road to appreciate how loud the exhaust noise is. I like it, even tho it's not a particularly pleasant noise, but you can readily appreciate how it falls into the "boy racer" image for some folk. QUick car tho.

The Evo 6 is a good choice as I think all of them fall outside the new hoof in the nuts 400 quid a year road tax laws. The only drawback (other than the short service intervals) is that they don't so much have a fuel tank as a Zippo in the boot. The frequent trips to the pumps can get a bit tedious

UK cars will be PLG, any import that has been brought in and had an SVA/ESVA post March 2006 will be on £400 per year because of the emissions.

Its really random, go out and import a 9 year old Evo VI, ESVA and register it - £400 a year.

My 2003 'UK' Evo VIII is PLG because it was SVAd in 2003. Its a really messy setup.
