The entire 1900's or 1900-1910?

If it is the entire 1900's I will start the list.

  • Respiration of all animals
  • Combustion Engine
  • Volcanic Eruption

What 1900s is she talking of, early or late?

In the early 1900s whole cities were burning coal - not just steam trains. Every factory, mill, and industrial plant was very likely working off coal fired furnaces.
Most houses burned coal for heating and cooking.

Houses were also heated and lit by gas - usually coal gas.

By the 1930s, most of the cities in the developed world were black with smut and soot caused by this burning (look at WW2 newsreel clips of London and see how black the buildings look compared to today).

Ships were running on coal fired boilers - either directly using steam engines or indirectly by steam turbines.

In less developed parts of the world, peat, wood and even manure were used as fuels.

All of this would have released CO2 (and even worse stuff) into the atmosphere. Far more people died of bronchial problems in the UK pre 1950 than do today.

The correct answer is than ANYTHING made caused some CO2 to be released. Perhaps the question needs clarifying.

Readers of the Manchester Guardian (now the "Sandalist")

Horses produce shed loads of methane which is much worse than CO2.
