Apparently this is available for the 535d now for under £500 from Superchips.

Everyone seems to reckon on DMS but it is twice the price and I assume with the Bluefin device the dealer cannot detect it if you remove it?? The figures look good at least.

I prepare to be flamed!

Price drop to £435 now and if you're a member of a BMW club/forum, I hear they knock 10% off and that becomes £391.

Anyone got any update on this?

Seriously tempted. As I live far away from most of the normal recognised diesel tuners, this could be the perfect solution for me.

Only concern is the car is under warranty, but the concensus seems to be that the Bluefin option is one of the least detectable upgrades.

I would not let Superchips near my toaster, let alone my car (apart from the Ford Bluefin stuff which seems ok)

Go to someone like evolve and get it done properly.

I fitted it to my car for about a week just to test it worked.....it certainly works, it just makes the car come alive
Then I got a forum (not PH) group deal on a evolve remap and since then its just sitting there doing nothing...until I saw this thread

I have one of those tuning boxes and it's really good (mine is a German one, in fact) - I am very happy with it, and it was cheap.

My understanding is that the plug in boxes do not change the ECU at all, they frig the sensors to trick them into using more fuel etc. and as such work but are relatively crude and do not give the ultimate power.

The plug in boxes are great in that you can plug them and trivially remove for servicing etc. and then plug back in.

If you can get a proper ECU remap that is self installable and uninstallable - then it would be best IMHO.

joe911 thats pretty much the solution i have which replaced the P-Tronic box.

I now have a box from Evolve that can plug into the OBD port to upload a map.
Easy as pie, takes 5 mins, and granny could do it.
This user up-loadable box holds my original map, plus another 2 maps 350bhp/700nM and 340BHP/730nM (extra maps cost extra).
i'm running the 340bhp/730nm map as i like the extra low end torque, not sure my tyres do :-)
those bespoke maps are also stored on my PC (not MAC)

BTW MPG has risen slightly 5% ish

I am sure a couple of owners can go splitsies on it?

I swear its a programme that can be used multiple times.... Or am I being retarded.

If it is the case why don't 3-4 people buy it, chip in a 100 each, all use it, then sell it on ebay and split what you get back...

This is all assuming the device can be used more than once.

I can't believe that you can buy it once and program many cars - it would be financial suicide for the manufacturer of the device.
I understood that the first thing you do is to upload a copy of the original software from you car - surely several different maps being uploaded would look suspicious. They must have locked it down, surely!

you download your original map..
e-mail that to the supplier
He cuts you a new map send it back and that that will only work on your car with that box.

Otherwise it would be a commercial suicide to offer it, especially to offer it on a forum full of like minded people all with similar carz.

It leaves loads of errors on just about every module that screams remap!!
In fact all the errors in the places at the same time, it also leaves a date stamp, means it couldn't really be anything else.

I wouldn't want it on my car while under warranty.

Superchips do give a warranty though when BMW refuse to cover things, so if you're happy with that then fair enough.

Superchips have always been the same, even with their regular remap it adjusted the ECU counter so when the car was plugged into the dealers system it flagged up, not good.

Get someone to map your car who rolls back the flash counter and makes sure all errors are cleared once installed, going in with errors on your car is the one thing that will get BMW looking at why?

Also, there is talk of warranty work being approved by BMW AG soon, so even if your dealer is mod friendly you may not be able to rely on that anymore, if BMW AG refuse to cover repairs then you're buggered.

Interesting, a man from Superchips did mine about 70,000 miles ago and had a few goes at different remaps with feedback from me on what sort of power profile I wanted, and some trial runs.

The branding "Superchips" is a franchisee's way of getting recognition and some kudos from the name, but we all know it's down to the skills of the guy at the laptop really.

Huh???

You saying the dealer saw your map and put it back to standard??

Or you saying you took your car in and it was wiped??

The dealer is not allowed to 'knowingly' wipe your map without your consent.

Car was in for repair from a minor accident. After it was all fixed and ready to be returned they said there was an anomaly with the cars figures so they fixed it.

I assume they didn't know it was a map and all they did was wipe it.
