London in the evening - things to do.

I am not overly familiar with London but know that if offers much. The wife would like to spend an evening there and I wanted to ask fellow members here if they could suggest things to do in the evening before we moved onto a resteraunt and then, hotel.

All I have so far is a walk along the Thames to Waterloo Bridge! Not too impressive a list.

I appreciate that many attractions close after 5 or 6 but I am sure some stay open.

Nothing wrong with Waterloo Bridge, my favourite one, amazing views. How about a nice slow evening stroll along The Mall towards the Palace, always impressive, then back down the Mall or through St James park and across Horseguards Parade (where they do trooping the colour), across Westminster Bridge past Big Ben and down onto the South Bank. Stay clear of Trafalgar and Leicester Squares, stholes.
I can't stand London during the day, but in the evening it can be a beautiful place.

O/T: Hungerford Bridge is my favourite; great at night on the eastern side looking towards the City.

On-topic. From Hungerford Bridge, head up through Leicester Square, ChinaTown and into Soho. Stopping for periodic breaks for liquid refreshment and people-watching along the way.

You may both enjoy looking around the Covent Garden area. On your map it's essentially the area bordered by,

the Strand (to the South)
Drury Lane (to the east)
Long Acre (to the North)
Charing Cross Rd (to the West)

and there's loads of restaurants in that area too.
