Filled up the car with petrol on Friday night, and managed to drive off without replacing the petrol cap Doh!! some git then nicked it from the petrol station so I now have no cap.

Spoke to my local dealer to get a new one and in traditional fashion there are seem to be a number of different types of filler cap for the Cerb and none of them are currently in stock (they also wanted £20 quid for a new one when they get one in, daylight robbery!)

Does anybody know if the cap is a TVR item or is it off a Rover/Ford/vauxhall, and is there really more than one type of cap for a 97 4.2? Finally, is it safe to drive the car without a cap in place?

Cheers for your help in advance

Or you could go for one of these, but these are a bit more than £20, but do look a lot better

And from their text.....
'All Cerbera models regardless of age use this cap' so that would say to me that they are all the same, but I could be wrong

I would think you could get one that fits from Halfords, but it would probably be a locking one.

I did the same thing a while back.i bought one for £5.80 from a main dealer.they told me there were 2 types.
When i picked it up it was the wrong one. They posted the right one to me free of charge!!
I drove around for about a week with a plastic bag held on with elastic bands.Didnt seem to stop the fumes though.

Instead of a plastic bag, try ( and dont laugh ) a durex. Preferably an unused one.

Use my wife's trick - go to several petrol stations and say you left your petrol cap behind. Most have a boxfull - take your pick!

dont drop the durex in the tank - can you imagine the comments from the mechanics. He loves his car too much.
