FITTING A MOMO STEERING WHEEL ?

hi all
i need some advice , i'm trying to fit a momo trek r steering wheel to my tamora
it looks like the holes on the wheel dont line up on the tvr boss ?
is it possible to drill out the boss and re centre the holes ! "anyone got any photos of the boss"
or is there a momo boss kit for the tamora ?

any advice please cheers keith

I fitted one on my Tuscan and yes you have to drill the boss,wasn't that much of a task to be honest,Good luck.

Dead easy, fitted to my Tam in about 5 mins. I would not bother fannying about drilling/tapping the boss, you need a boss adaptor (italian fitment) which costs about £10 inc p&p. Use the old bolts (that hold the wheel on) to bolt the adaptor to the boss then use some nice stainless bolts to mount the wheel to the adaptor. The buttons mounted on the plate for the display up/down just fit against the adaptor. The only thing you notice is the wheel is 10-12mm closer to you which is the depth of the adaptor. I live in Dunstable if you want to see how mine is fitted.

Get these to bolt the wheel on, I would pass a bolt through each of the holes on the adaptor first so they tighten up without stripping the bolt head

i've got two options here at the moment

D14 ays the drilling of the boss , do you have to drill the top of the boss and then tap it ?
or do you drill holes to the base of the boss where the boss is mounted to the steering column and re bolt it in its new postion ?

Shep 1001 seems a good route to take ! at the moment i dont want the wheel to go further forward so i'm going to keep my options open !
but it is going to be easier to fit ? if i do it this way any help you can give me would be great

Keith, you can replace the whole boss unit which costs about £60 IIRC, most places that sell the wheels sell the boss kits. More expense and time to fit though, I think you also need a special tool to remove the nut holding the boss in place. I got round the wheel being moved forward by adjusting the throw of the column back a little, you would not know it was fitted now.

It was quite easy,I placed new wheel on existing boss then marked with a felt tip pen,drill then tap,job done

is it directly behind the momo wheel (new holes will have to be formed in this so it lines up)

or does it sit on the existing tvr boss ! then the 10 mm adapter, then the steering wheel , so there is now a 10 mm gap from the momo steering wheel and the display control (up n down thing)

I was fearing that I'd need a huge socket to get the boss off but instead, the bit you're interested in (and I'm not entirely sure of the terminology) is held on with allen bolts (from memory). On my Momo, one of the holes lined up, so used that as TDC (or similar), then scratched the position of other holes through the wheel using a nail. I didn't have a tap so used the old steering wheel bolts to do the job before replacing them with the new shiny ones I got with my wheel. I had to drill 2 new holes in the dashboard button plate but having sweated over drilling the boss (and admittedly getting help on that too), it was easy. The important thing is to NOT break the wires to the buttons, I imagine that would get expensive....

Took me no longer than 3hrs. In perspective, took me 4hrs to change the rear badge. I don't have a future in TVR servicing!

I've got the same set up on mine.
The buttons sandwich between the adapter and the tvr boss I've just bent them towards the steering wheel looks good & is much better than the personal set up.



I'll take a behind shot tomorrow if you want.

PS took me about 10mins to do the whole job.

And if you don't want then wheel to close to you undo the clamp and push it back in to the dash.

i've got the momo trek r wheel which loooks great but has slotted arms so you will see the display control behind it in places
i think i may spray it silver so it dosen't stand out so much ?

well at the moment i'm going to order the adapter off ebay "thanks to shep 1001"

i dont mind doing it the other way by drilling the boss and tapping but having to drill holes to the disply control in position with the wires in place is a no no for me just one slip and a bill from an auto electrician

"Shep 1001" can you confirm that i need to order new bolts to fix the wheel ? the wheel that i have has got 6 x s/s allen key bolts so can i use these ! and to fix the boss can i use the old tvr wheel counter sunk bolts

I am in the middle of fitting a Mono Nero - a night mare! The buttons behind the wheel mean you have to drill holes through to then be able to screw the front of the new wheel on from the rear. It has damaged the cable going to the controls of the buttons meaning I need to replace them tomorrow, its going to look good though when done.

Good news is the Boss is ok as it is but I have had to drill further holes through the button plate.

Hi keith, been away today sorry.

My wheel/adaptor was not supplied with bolts so I needed more. Check the length of the bolts you have are not too long/short but the ones I ordered were fine. The up/down buttons mounted on the plate sit behind the adaptor so dont need new holes drilling. I have emaild some pics of my wheel in place from the front/back which are prety clear (albeit a bit dark).

Hi Keith only just seen this thread, I used one of these adaptors, still got it somewhere as I took the wheel off after a week as I didn't like it, I would've posted it to you if I had seen it earlier, hope your all sorted now though

I fitted a Momo Trek R, its just too big and I felt it looked a bit max power (I had the one with the yellow MOMO on the top). I have a different Momo to go on, just need some time to work out how to get it on and move the buttons to the wheel.
