Hi guys, hope you cn help.

Was working away on the Cerb today, didn't notice I'd left a window part open, so the battery was draining.

Last job I did was to try to tidy the engine bay up a bit - used some autoglym engine cleaner on the can covers and the aircon compressor (I think that's what it is) but noted the sticker not to power wash, so just rinsed it off with a cloth.

Now at this point, everything was working, doors, boot, windows, the lot.

Start the car up, the starter was a bit slow but it started. But the electrics were all over the place. I had no electric windows, no wipers, no washers, no indicators (although they did come on when the wheel was in a certain position, whether I wanted them to or not). The interior light was on all the time, headlights on full beam, steering wheel button wouldn't dip them, turning the lighting switch made no difference.

All gauges were ok, speedo worked, but mileometer not turning. Horn worked.

Came back home, door buttons don't work, had to use emergency handles. Drivers window is stuck down a bit (I had the door open when I started it, and the window didn't go back up). Also noticed engine temnp rising as if fan not cutting in. Boot lock not working.

Noticed water lying on engine under alternator, so sucked it out with a vacuum pump - it's dry there now.

Now the engine starts, and all the controls seem to work as normal - lights, wipers, indicators, horn etc.

Only thing not working is the doors - the interior and exterior switches don't work. Boot switch doesn't work either.

I checked the fuses for the doors / entry system and they all seem to be ok.

I can get into the car using the emergency entry procedure (not to be discussed here) but anybody got any ideas what might still be wrong? Will it just dry out?

Checked some previous threads, thought I should maybe try resetting the door / window control box? Which one is that?

Found the door system control box, disconnected it for 10 minutes, connected it up again and all's working again!

Don't you just love em!

I spoke too soon - 2 problems left:

1. the speedo works but the mileage and trip don't

2. The engine temp is all over the place - it apparently has a Trackcar Solutions cooling chip, and it was fine until my mishap earlier - now I don't think the fan's cutting in at all.

I think I should do a "system reset" - ie disconnect the battery for 10 mins then reconnect. Any other suggestions?

Check for water and/or corrosion in the temp sender on the rearmost coolant pipe under the F1 panel
If the ECU isn't getting a decent reading for the coolant temp then it won't turn the fans on
Easiest way to check is using the diagnostic software
When my sensor was causing problems the coolant temp was spiking more than the lambda readings smile
