Canon A70 problems

I use my wife's old A70 digital compact when I can't be bothered to lug my D70 around since the demise of my S70 to an E18 error.

Powered it up today to find the CCD totally blank and it's making a rattly noise . Works perfectly otherwise (displays contents of memory card and appears to take pics normally, just doesn't show anything on the CCD.

Did a bit of googling and found this:

I know it's an ancient camera but it worked perfectly before - this bulletin is 4 years old now and the camera older, but is it worth contacting my "local" service centre? (It seems there are only 3 in the UK!)
