Sorry I dont know the name of the luminus tube thingys that dont require any light to make them glow.

anywho, what watches have these on?

I am looking to get a nice watch as I only have a G shock for when I'm doing something like off roading riding or basically, any time a watch 'might' get broke [hasnt broke yet after about 4 years]

and an analog one for when it wont get broke [will try and find it and post a pic so you can tell me what it is and if its any good]

so, one of the major selling points of my new watch will be that it has to have a permanent lumanesence[sp] like with those tubey things.

Im guessing they are quite expencive but ideally I'm looking to spend under 6-700 pound. [If possable, If not, well, Ill have to spend more heh]

can anyone help out?

Hi mate,
they are called tritium tubes and my PRS commander Titan has them on, infat it has them as the hands and as the hour markers, with a very rare red tritium tube as the 12 o'clock marker.
Mine is Brand new and cost me £200 including shipping from timefactors.co.uk
The watch is titanium with carbon fibre ratchet bezel, water proof to 200m, and it's a fantastic watch, here it is next to my 46mm Breitling super ocean, so it's not too small either, but then not too big as to get in the way when doing stuff.

Personally, I think Ball does them best, not least because I love their watches

That will take a very long time as the tritium tube half life is approx. 12.5 years, meaning that after 25 years they will still be at a quarter of their original brightness, so you'll be waiting an awfully long time for the tubes to extinguish completely. Ball offers complete tube replacement once you decide they have become too dark though it's too early to say how much it will cost.

Have a blue Teacer with a nato strap, (about to be replaced as a combination of petrol and diesel haven't done it any good..). Great watch. In complete darkness, (camping in the bush in Africa), even provided enough light from my wrist to help me see around inside my tent..

Yeah. I thought it wasnt that impressive but I was testing like this.

turn light off look at watch yeah I can see it but not that good.

One night I left it on my bedside table and it bothered me that much I had to cover it up. once your night vision kicks in they are brilliant. normal lume just dissapears after a while.

I like some of the Traser watches - unfortunately stopped distributing them in Dubai.

Ah, that'd be me reading from the Ball website about its particular tubes, which definitely have a 12.5 year half life smile I had planned to include that but figured that as their tubes have a 12.5 year half life, other watches would too but it would appear others aren't quite as good wink

Nite say on their website that they should last between 10 and 20 years as well.

I'll be honest, I handled Nite's top end model and I wasn't impressed. In fact, I'd say it was overpriced at £375. At least their tritium tubes appear to be good.

Now I know this might be a very stupid question to ask, But Im going to anyway rolleyes

just how many different makes are there that use glow tubes [cant spell the right name]

I want a rather snazzy black watch, kinda like this one. (blacks good, but if there is a silver one, well if its good enough it might be bought over a black one)

But for a bit less than near 300, does anyone know of a different make that does them? I know I could go for a less expencive traser, But want to look around before I buy incase there is one that suits me better.

(if you could list the different makes that do them that would be 'just super' biggrin )

Off the top of my head you've got Ball, Traser and Nite and while there might be more I can't think of any. Out of those three Nite appears to make a number of watches that are well below the £300 mark.

As for not being able to spell the name of the tubes just call it 3H illumination, which is also correct smile
