Had one of THOSE days out yesterday...
makes you remember why all the faff of mtb is so so so worth it. Went with a friend to afan and rode the W2. Good blast down the M4, talking rubbish boy bike chat all the way. Rode the w2 in glorious sunshine. The trails were quiet, nice and grippy and the bike behaved all the way round - it was great to start getting some flow on, on the longer sections. Took the harder lines all the way round and even managed to clear some table tops. Dont worry Neil, i case'd plenty of them too.
Had an EPIC lunch in the cafe before tackling the second half. Finished with a super fast desccent down the wall, and had massive cramps in my legs at the end!
Si and i must have passed 30-40 folk on our lap and only 1 crazy guy on a single speed scalped us.
Pottered back round for a couple of leffe's at the cafe before back to brissle for a curry. happy days.
But, on the way round we did hear of a group, one of whom who needed the big yellow chopper to hospital - not too bad but bad enough to be needing some nurse time. And i think, tbc, that this person is our very own Abarth Chris, so if it is - GET WELL SOON BUDDY

Did the rider who needed the 'chopper bin it on some woodwork? Been chatter on t' bike forums all weekend about a rider going down, with people wanting to know if he's OK.
yes and yes. It is Chris, he binned off the side of the woodwork on the top section and he will be ok!I was in Afan yesterday with a friend, we were riding the woodwork behind the group with the guy that hurt himself. I offered my first aid kit, but it wasn't until we spoke to some other riders later in the day that we realised he needed more than a plaster!
Hope the guy was ok.
I had the most pansy of stacks. I rode into a little grass clump on the side of one of the fireroads on Penhydd and in slow motion went over the front wheel square onto my noggin. What a plank. Still a great day. Well worth the drive!

I've been at Afan all weekend. Was drying with a chest infection for weeks and weeks so I was glad to be back.
Rode Penhydd Saturday and it was a nice easy run to get my eye in.
Rode White's today it was fiddly going up, I'm still not 100% so was going slow and getting passed by a massive group, but they all seemed to be getting caught out with technical and the like so I ended up passing them again, then they passed me and I'd pass them again, like I say fiddly but everyone was good natured. Only did the very start of the black because I was already tired from RPM class Friday night and Penhydd the day before. Hit the next bit Windy Point and just plain smashed it, hit all the optional rock jumps and drops loved it.
Missed out the Energy section, well because it's crap.
Smashed through the next section which is awesome, I'm not a fan of woodwork, in fact it gives me nightmares but I enjoyed it today, my mate who was chasing me down fell off, but no harm done. I notice they've built a chicken run trail that goes around it.
Also hit the last section about as hard as I ever have, my competitive nature got the best of me, spotted a group of lads who passed me early on the climb as we started, about 150m ahead of me and the horns came out, ha ha, caught their tail gunner about half way down but riding like a loon, just flat but without touching the brakes. But I'm not a t
t so as soon as we caught him I slowed down and let him go.
In short I'm so glad to get back in the saddle, even the weather played ball!
Sorry to hear about your mate going down, I binned it on the wood once, front wheel went over the edge and I just face planted the wood.

Was also at Afan this weekend (did wonder whether any of the folks from here would be there...).
White's Level, Penhuydd then the Wall.
Was most amusing, if anyone spotted 3 guys looking grubby and confused that was us! Mate's Orange X1 finally gave up the ghost, and I don't think I did my Ellsworth any favours - new sprockets I think.

Hi Guys!
Cheers for all the well wishes. I'm finally back in my own home now, after two days in hospital.
I suffered a nasty impact to the head and a large gash through my cheek which has required around 40 stitches to close, both internally and externally!
I still cant believe it was me that got choppered off, even moreso that the boy moon was behind me!
Thanks to all those who offered help and a big thanks to all those in the emergency services. I'm very glad that I donate monthly to an air ambulance charity!
heres a gruesome pic of me having just been freed from the neck restraints

Good effort mate, hope your back on the bike soon.
Last time I saw the Air Ambulance out was at Dalby for someone with a badly broken leg - he was surprisingly chipper but his mates were fighting like girls over who got to ride in the yellow bird with him!
Now some genuine advice.
About a year and a half ago I suffered some similar injuried to my face/forehead/cheeks etc, about 50 odd stitches, lots of blood like you. I was, if im honest, quite upset about it spoiling my youthful good looks.
Firstly - the surgeons are clever b
ds. I imagine that like they did me - they have told you that although its ugly now it will heal up better than you expect - well there right.
Secondly - Bio-oil. This is something a number of the medical staff reccomended me. I cant tell you if this was solely responsible (I'm sure as hell not doing a control experiment!) but my scars healed up fantastically, and it definitely helped with the pain and softening up the scar tissue.
I used it regularly for the first year or so, massaging it into the scars, and it does soften the tissue up and reduce the heavy scar tissue down.
It wont be as bad as you think!

Snotrag - Thanks for the reassurance, the surgeons have done great but its still a worry. Thanks for the bio oil recommendation too, a number of people have said its good stuff.
I'm not sure how I did it exactly, I was riding really well on the day and was enjoying every bit, even the climbs!
From what I can piece together, I think that I lost the front on the boards and it either washed out or dropped off and then I landed heavily on my face. Hope M4's couldnt stop me quick enough so I used my head!
Right, I'm off to rest so I'll say bye for now
