What Character encoding does PH use?

I seem to have to change mine from Western to unicode on a seemingly random basis depending on what page I'm looking at (Classifieds and forums for example seem to use a different set.)

Or is it my PC that's going a little odd?

As far as I can see the encoding isn't specified so your browser will be trying to guess.

As far as i'm aware it is all using iso-8859-1.

There certainly shouldn't be any difference between the forums and the classifieds!

I'm guessing OP's using FF - the same thing happens to me. Only really noticeable with £ symbol (GBP, pound sterling), sometimes unusual symbols like ^, ~, ^, etc. Often turns into some hieroglyph.

what do you have set in View > Character Encoding menu option?

Here's a screen-shot but I do have the "right" one selected (I think!). It's just it struggles with various punctuation marks - as said above really.

Just for info, as well as the classifieds the member's info pages are also common for having the issue as well

It's a small annoyance rather than anything critical

Agreed, though unfortunately the hereditary of the system means we have #163; references in the site (and a few others), thus creating this problem with browsers that do things properly and don't help out lazy coding

We are working on the parser to sort some of them out, and will visit each section as we redesign some of the site over the next 6 months.
