Wing mounted mirrors?

Does anyone else think that the canopy mounted mirrors look a bit...err...pony?

Seeing as there is all this talk about carbon items, what do people think about mirrors mounted on the flat of the centre section. I don't mean (and with respect) a design like the can-am no.1 wood style, but something with a heavily raked forward upright and an aero mirroe housing. All in carbon.

Yes - just like that - perhaps a little lighter in design.

not sure how possible it would be but maybe combine an off the shelf carbon mirror from someone like SPA and bond/fix it onto an aero section tube from : http://carbonfibretubes.co.uk/

Stick your hand outside at 180+ to imagine what might be needed....I'll bet a lot of time and effort has gone into the design of those mirrors, their mounts and location within the body aerodynamics.
I agree they look great.........whether they will compliment a GTR's performance or not would be my only concern?

Goes without saying that time and effort would be used in the construction of said. My issues apart from the odd aesthetics of the std GTR mirrors are:

1) They are mounted to the door which open and closes (an we as the driver are only responsible for the closing on one side - I think you know what I mean by that!)

2) I've never been happy - especially one trackdays, to have to take my eyes that far off the road ahead.

Mind you, just looking at a few pic of the GTR - not so sure that you can get a mirror that far forward so that you can see the mirror out of the front screen. Looking at some 1/18th groupCs the Porsche GT1 has them right on the front of the wings!!

Don't forget they will still need to be electrically adjustable for SVA/IVA.

Was wondering the same for the Canam. Just as a CF replacement for the current. They are already electrically adjustable so I guess a similar solution could be found for the GTR just a matter of a wiring extension.

Mine are mounted on the doors (on USA website gallery). Thew view is limited by the rear wings and when time permits the factory mirrors will go on regardless of the looks.
