A little help please? Can anyone find a region free hack for a Sanyo SL22 dvd player? My mate is off work with a rugby induced fractured skull and i was going to lend him some DVDs but most of them are Region 1.

Websense keeps me out of all the sites. Bloody firewalls....

Help?

Not a hack but you can get a firmware upgrade here :
www.dvdchips.co.uk
I have used them for my DVD recorder and had no problems. If in doubt ask about them here : www.thedvdforums.com
They seem well thought of.

I updated the firmware on my DVD player (different brand etc) and it made it multi-region - sure this firmware update doesn't do the same?

Did you use their "we'll send you a tool, you use it & send it back" service?

My DVD is covered under this category, but I'm a little worried by the bit that says: "If we don't get the tool back quickly enough, we'll charge extra to your credit card"

I did - It was a remote control they sent me. You have 28 days to send it back, if they don't get it you get charged for the remote. I sent it back recorded delivery or somesuch thing, which means you get proof of delivery or if it's not delivered the insurance pays out, so it's no real problem.

Richer Sounds in Cambridge are selling a cheap (and probably slightly nasty) multi-region DVD player for 35 quid. This might be an easier option. The region 2 only player is 30 quid. I nearly tripped over my jaw as I passed the window...

I'll now go away and mope about the amount of money I paid for my Pioneer DV-717 a few years back.
