If it's exactly 2000 revs each time.... On a BMW before I had that and the car had gone into 'safe mode' as it thought there was a problem and wanted to protect the engine. Turned out to be an electrical gremlin.

sounds awfully like its in limp home mode... ie ECU restricting the cars power to save any damage (or what it thinks maybe damaging)

didnt you have some major work recently to this car?

Get it to a dealer.

But first bob onto uk mkivs forum and see if there's anyone near you with vagcom who can view the fault codes for you.

there are no faults found on the vagcom, could it be some other sensor?

Weird - limp mode should light up the engine check light and cause all sorts of errors.

Happened on my A4 TDI, turned out to be a chaffing wire. Insulating tape cured it.
